One has started to hang around hunting in the field that backs onto mine which the farmer has as set aside land (so rich in pickings for her). She usually comes along about 15:30 every day but today was a bit earlier.
Sorry for poor pics, they are from so far away so zoomed in a lot.

They are beautiful pictures! Yes we have a barny that goes on the prowl from about 15.00 onwards. We have Tawnys and little Owls around here to, but they arent as obvious to see as the Barny! Thanks for sharing the pic! Leighxx

Wow, fantastic pics. My mum used to have two tawny owls that would sit together out on a branch during the day.

Fantastic picture. Barn owls start their courtship around this time of year and the male starts hunting more and presenting food to the female so thats probably why you are seeing him around more during the day.

I was gobsmacked a couple of weeks ago when a Barn Owl flew around my arena whilst I was schooling my mare - he/she circled slowly several times and then flew over the hedge. That was also about 15:30 come to think of it.

A couple of years ago I was also schooling my mare when I got the strange feeling I was being watched - I couldn't work out why until I spotted a pair of baby Little Owls up in a tree. They were completely mesmerized by us and stayed to watch the whole performance!!

We have one too that flies in the late afternoon. Always makes me stop and watch.
