Since I am studying Horse behaviour therapy I am thinking what I want to do with my degree when I finish. I love children who are a bit different and I love Arabian horses, so I thought why not bring them together. So a plan is slowly coming into my head, and I would like to know what you guys think of it. First I want to move to the South of France and buy a nice farm with a lot of land, then I would like to organize holidays for families who have a child with Autism. My plan gets better though, because I would like to use elderly Arabian mares. So often I see them advertised from 18 years and older, I always think where will they end. But if my plan comes into work I can save some of them and work with them with the children. So they can all have a great time caring and loving each other.
I would also have room for neglected and abused Arabians to let them heal again Please tell me what you think??

It will be wonderful if it all comes together for you, but why limit it to kids with autism? there are thousands of kids out there with special needs who blossom with the influence of horses. I know severe physical disability can require extra regulation and manpower, but why not tap another pool to get that resource? I am sure there would be a constant stream of Equine / teacing students who would love to spend their summer holiday gaining valuable experience in the setting you describe.

Thanks so much girls. And Pat I am sure that every child is welcome, I was also thinking about the abused children and drug parent children, I mean all the children are WELCOME as well as ALL HORSES. Would love to have a lot of old Arabians to work with, but who am I to turn down another horse or donkey???
And it is just a wild idea, but a dream I would like to see become real. With Love, Monique |

Fascinating idea Monique! It sounds like the holidays where people take their disabled children to be with dolphins, only horses are so much more available!
It would be very special to do it exclusively with Arabs, but no reason why not. There are so many people, even just on this site, who have stories of their Arabs who seem to know when they have someone small or vulnerable on them, and behave extra specially well. My own Lance was so very careful when my tiny niece was plopped on top and taken around the paddock yesterday.
Very good luck with it. Naturally we want updates all the way!! |
