I am thinking of taking my old palomino mare to the Palomino National Championships for the veteran class this year because she is still very beautiful. While I am there it would be nice to do a pairs class with her great neice.
Could someone tell me what is entailed with a pairs class. I have never managed to watch one. Do you just walk trot and canter round together or is it more choreographed than that, and is it necessary to wear matching outfits?
Hi Saddlebred My other half and i go to the pally nationals so will look out for you, are you going for both days? Will try and answer your question - the pairs class is designed for fun more then anything, there arent always a great number in it, two one year and last year there was four pairs i think. Last years was a bit more interesting with more pairs. You start of like a normal class you walk and trot side by side and i think they cantered as well then you get pulled in so you can do your individual show. One junior pair last year were very good they had choreographed their individual show so they did some together then some in a mirrored image (if you know what i mean?) However my other half and his pair did let themselves down a bit as they had decided on the day to do the class and they werent used to each other and my other halfs mare kept pulling faces and needless to say there was a big gap between them ! The more used to each other and the more you know about which horse has a bigger stride moves faster is better as that horse you will want on the outside. Outfits wise depends on how serious you want to take it! It obviously looks better if your both wearing the same type of jacket and the same colour so either both in tweed or both in a show jacket. Matching browbands are great as if there are two shows that are equally good its the little things like that, that can seperate them! But ultimately it is for fun!!! Hope thats helped? Look forward to seeing you there will be showing both days and will be the one with the bbq and alcohol saturday night!!!
Hi RiffRaff Thanks for the tips. I did go last year with my youngster but we were so busy sorting ourselves out didnt get chance to watch the pairs class. Thought it might be a nice way to end my old girls showing career. She is 26 now and more grey than palomino but we would be doing it for fun so not expecting to be placed or anything.
Which horses do you own and I will look out for you? We will only be there for the ridden classes. Debs
Lol... That's the maddest class I've ever been in! Great fun
3 years ago we won the class with the Edwards' Shulay gelding, but last year we came first the wrong end with Lorenzo as the geebs def didnt get on with him and managed to scare him right across the arena, poor lorenzo has'nt been right since!
When we won it, ther judge said the we were the least furthest apart... and when we came last it was quite clear that we were NOT A PAIR! Hee, hee...
If you've got a chance to practice it and do a nice show you will definately win it!
I just normally grab anyone that's tacked up that has'nt got a pair and have a go! The entries boost the fund and gives the judges a good light-hearted laugh too!
Ps. think the veteran inhand class is free to enter?
