This weekend I witnessed the most funny thing with my gang. We have 4 Arabs and I have a 3 year old very well bred warmblood who has lived 24/7 with our Arabs since he was 6 months old. Since day one being taken under the wing of beautiful Arab stallion who is no longer with us Max has aspired to act like an Arab, snorting, lovely exaggerated trot, tail over his back ect.. He looks odd at times now being 16.3h and just big overall compared to the petite floating gang. Over recent years he as always acted as the muscle when they are up to their tricks with fencing, this Saturday I watched him put his leg through the 5 bar gate and lift it off it's hinges and drop it to the floor whilst his partners in crime stood along side watching and then popped over the said gate on the floor to get to their rested field! All gates have now had sheep wire applied to stop that lttle trick, I just can't believe he didn't have a mark on him!! It was so funny to see their little faces as they pranced around as if to say, thanks Max!!

So funny...and bet his `mates` were well pleased with him Can just imagine them all charging off, tails over their backs, snorting and bucking, and thinking " Winter is over, we are on our Summer paddocks....whooooo 00000"

Arabs do seem to influence other horses - my friend and I took my two out for a hack yesterday. I rode Dulcie my arab and she rode Gretel my Fjord. Gretel did helicopters with her head, pranced and lifted her tail up just like Dulcie as we asked them to trot on. It made us laugh so much. I don't think Dulcie was to impressed! |

Babs, you certainly have the picture rightI think the sudden rise in temprature and the smell of that lovely grass was just too much to resist!! Different picture today though, stuffed bellies and dozing in the sun, apart from Max who is constantly on the lookout for another project I have news for him, his sudden spurt of boredem has spurred me onto to working with him to keep that comprimised warmblood brain occuppied

My warmblood mare does sometimes act like arabs as she is 17.2hh,when let other horses into summer field, all arabs with their tail over their back so she copies them with amazing huge paces with tail up in the air,so lovely to watch, will try film her when she does it when moving her into the spring/summer field in few weeks! |

She sounds just like Max, wish I had a camera at the time!! What a big girl, I was hoping to have a 16.3h horse when I chose Max but should have known better as his dad stands at 17.1hh, it's a big change from my other arabs, especially the paces as we have just begun some ridden work at the ripe age of 3 thought I better start before he gets too big and disagrees with what I am asking!!

My young Dartmoor mare lived with a part-bred arab filly who really floated - and when we took the little yearling Darty to her first show in 2001- she was shown by Amanda Holloway - and got excited by the Working hunter class in the adjoining ring. She went into elevated extended trot with her tail up - and we have the photo to prove it. She still moves really well - as she has lived with part-bred arab's all her life.
She actually came third in her class of 1,2 & 3 yr olds - which consisted of mainly Welsh ponies - so we think she did rather well. She then went on to win the Dartmoor yearling filly class at Devon County that year as well. |

Some years ago, we had a Full Shire x Full Arab mare, to visit our Thoroughbred stallion. Gemima, she was so sweet, 16.2hh. A complete gentle lamb. We let her into a paddock adjoining our Anglo youngsters
Well...The Anglos where gobsmacked with this huge nag, trotting round, they went into "look what we can do mode"...showoffs, snorting and bucking with tails aloft!! Gemima, bless her responded by `Showing` these young upstarts, that she too had arab connections and proceeded to copy their antics. As usual, no camera to hand, to capture the scene. A huge Shire looking Arab, with Tail over her back, feathers flying in the wind and amazingly fleet of foot for such a big horse!!
She subsequently produced three quality Heavyweight Hunter types, sired by Sunray Scinnamon GSB
This is Gemima. Her elderly owner was a pedigree Shire Breeder. He wanted to improve the quality of his Shires, so he used a 15hh three year old unlicenced Pure Arab colt, hoping for a filly, which he then planned to put back to his Shire stallions. Unfortunately he died before fulfilling his project. Gemima was brought to our stallion as his grand-daughter inherited the mare and was not interested in Shires. At the time, she did give me the Pure Arab sire`s name, but would have to dig back in the archived to find it.
So there you go.....Arabs DO improve quality, whatever the breed of mare Would love to have shown Gemima in a Part Bred Arab Class!!
