Everyone knows what achievements Toman has had under saddle, partnered by Ann Hooley. As you know he was retired from the Ridden Show ring after winning the European Championships.
Toman came home and was put in the care of my daughter Kate Kate is in the second year of a degree at Hartpury, but during EVERY spare moment she rides Toman and Basra along with helping with the rest of the horses.
As you can imagine Tom has had a big learning curve home is now a workplace and not just a chill out pampering place. He has also had to learn to take another rider (first off much taller and heavier than his previous rider and not as experienced) BUT Kate and Tom are now learning the measure of each other and beginning to have some fun!!!!
Over the weekend they entered their second dressage competition together they worked in, for a very short time, along with all the other dressage horses. Ooops called down to the main arena I nipped to the loo BUT had to rush to remove bandages and take the tail out of plait and straight in the ring. Deep breath Tom behaved impeccably (so did Kate lol no time for nerves).
Waiting for the results and WOW, they came equal THIRD out of TWENTY SIX and got a rosette and PRIZEMONEY!!!! Toman was the ONLY Arab there and the ONLY stallion (although no-one would have realized.
Please, this is NOT a promo for Tom, but after the last TWO months, this is just what was needed. I am SO SO PROUD of my boy and especially of my wonderful daughter.
I was not going to post this, but my FRIENDS have nagged me to do it, so sorry to bore you all.
So Tom and Kate are still flying the Arab flag and taking on the non arab enthusiasts but wowing them and winning them over. They did get lots of nice comments and they looked so WONDERFUL together

WELL DONE. How many other HOYS winners were there?! Just shows how showing doesn't have to 'ruin' a horse.
Keep flying the flag................

Well done to both!! Kate is SO lucky to have Toman to do dressage on!!! PS Toman's former partner was also having a change of role - Ann was being "lass" to a point-to-pointer trained by her husband at last weekend's meeting at Bangor - lovely big chestnut who finished 2nd. He can be seen on our website in the final race at the Albrighton. |

Well done to Kate and Toman and everyone connected with this lovely stallion. No disrespect to our top showing boys but it is horses like Toman whom imo are truly representative of the Arabian horse and whom will help restore the credibility of our wonderful breed in the open market.

My daughter is eleven and will enter her first ridden show in April. She is taking lessons twice weekly on her pure bred arab (Jysophelia)and both working so hard. Its bloody fantastic! |

Fantastic, what a brilliant moment! Pics would be wonderful; congratulations to Kate and Toman.
To be honest it doesn't surprise me that he did so well. He's always seemed to have a very genuine temperament - willing and naturally eager and obedient. Imagine how well these two are going to do if that was their first outing?
Well done again Team Toman. What a flag-flyer for the Arabian breed... |

Fabulous! I've never seen Toman in the flesh but he looks such a stunning boy in photos. I love to see arabs out competing at dressage and other traditionally 'non-arab' equestrian disciplines. He's a fantastic ambassador for the breed. Well done Toman and Kate and team - and good luck for future competitions... wouldn't it be great to get his photo on the dressage pages of H&H? |

That's great news, I'm not surprised you're proud of them both
It's so good to hear of Arabs in open competition doing well and showing people that they are capable of more than looking beautiful (or looking hepped up if they've been exposed to the in-hand showing scene - I know that doesn't apply to everyone so pleaes don't jump on me!)
Please post some photos so we can see how good they looked |

Fantastic and well done Kate/ Tom and Judith! I am sure Tom will excel in the dressage arena - like a lot of stallions he will probably settle better to the dressage ring as he is in it on his own and doesnt have the stress of other horses around him and no noise going on around. I know Plum prefers dressage to showing. Also warm up s are usually a civilised affair with not too many in the ring at the same time. |
