My Sec B mare is also due in June - at the moment she is out on grass for 6-8 hours a day (weather permitting), quality hay when in and fed a mix of Balanced Baseline and Show Mix with speedy beet once a day. I will put her on stud mix for the last 3 months. |

what about calcium minerals and micro nutrients? a balanced feed which contains everything might be better for her l have not used suregrow so l am not familar with the contents but my broodies are fed hi -fi suga beet spillars cool mix spillars high fibre cubes [which l will change to stud cubes when they need it] they get 3 kilos split into two meals daily and soya oil hay add lib they are well covered but not fat......
you don't want a fat brood mare, and too much food in the last weeks can result in a large foal and differcult birth..but you do want to make sure that she has everything she needs

Suregrow is great, feed it to broodmare and foals / yearlings as it contains all the vits / minerals they require when extra requirements are made on the body. Thoroughbreds especially require more nutrients when lactating and growing.
I'd follow the vet advice there - maybe worth calling Dodson & Horrell advice line for a more personal advice. |

thanks for your advise, i forgot to add this is her 1st foal...
i will speek to her owner about it, i am alittle unsure as her 1ft one i want it as natural as posible but she is very VERY sensitive to heating up with food, give her some polos and shes bounceing around, would suregrow hype her up? |

I have to say all the horses that have been at Chapel Lane have quite a plain diet.
In foal mares here have Spillers Mare & Youngstock mix added to their diet in the third trimester of their pregnancy. I've always found this to build beautiful babies
I know everyone has different views, if you are still struggling to decide try a Nutritionalist at your chosen Feed Manufacturers, they are normally extremely helpful |

When my mare was infoal or meant to be I fed her on Baileys Stud Balancer and Alfa oil. As she lost her foal last year and she will be going back down to stud again this year I have kept her on the same feed but half the dose and just adding some Speedy Beet through the winter.
They do need the mins and vits to help produce a healthy foal.

Our preggie mare (due in May) is being fed Suregrow (800gms/day) and 2Kgs/day of Stud Diet, Alpha A Oil and Graze On. She gets hay ad lib and is out on grass, weather and paddock surface permitting, for a couple of hours a day. She looks great!
Our entire herd are routinely fed Suregrow - from foal - weanling on 1Kg/ad lib, yearling on 800gms/day, 2 year old on 900gms/day and then 3 year old onwards they get 400gms/day - and I have always fed that and wouldn't use anything else as a feed balancer. |
