if anyone has any other ideas of how to keep her amused i would be really grateful, nikki suggested a stable mirror, does anyone know where to get them? although minty is fine, she doesn`t have any company apart from me and 6 orphaned sheep (who are more like dogs cos they were hand reared!) is that enough? i am looking for a "friend" for her but its taking longer than expected! Hi Emma, One of my friend's bought a stable mirror on Ebay Very reasonably priced and it really helped her mare with her box rest |

Hi Emma So glad to hear that Minty is on the mend. She looks WELL pampered!! Reminds me so much of when my old girl went in for her surgery - I still have her hospital name badge on her rug because felt it was tempting fate to take it off!
If Minty is used to not having any horsey friends IMO you are probably best keeping her with her sheepie friends until the leg has stabilised. You dont want her galloping her round with excitement as they all do when they are trying to impress someone new!
My Fayre had to be in for 3 months in all and she took to it really well considering she had never been stabled. My only problem was that she got acute laminitis when she had to stay in 24x7 for a couple of days half way through her rehab. The reason was that I was in hospital having an emergency caesarean and the yard kept her in because we had a heavy snowfall and they were scared of her slipping over with her cast on. Just make sure she gets exercise through any adverse weather to avoid that.
Horses are amazingly resilient and I think our Arabs are so clever that they know not to run around until they are ready. All the best.... and if ever you get fed up with hubby there are probably a few thousand on here who would take him off your hands!! What a star he has been for you. Lucky you! |

Hi Emma
Glad she's on the mend
Lovely photos - she has the same kind eye as Rio and the same curly tips on the ears.
