Sorry for the moan but feeling really down today. Its my birthday, Im 42 and still no job. To top it off my mare has decided that anyone leading other horses through her field is fair game. She's been kicked twice this week because she wont leave them alone. Its getting dangerous. If YO wont let me move her anywhere else I'll have to leave her in until most of the field traffic has gone through. Moan over. Need alchohol. Maybe later.

Happy Birthday!! Sorry to hear you are down. Hopefully your YO will let your mare move to another field, at least that might take one thing off your mind. Hope you feel happier soon, Sam x |

Happy birthday You're not old!! you can't be or that would mean that I was and needed to become a grown-up
Hope you manage to find a job soon - there is nothing worse than having lots of time to brood. As for the mare, no suggestions really but hope you manage to sort out an amicable solution for all concerned.

Happy birthday. Don't worry about having a moan, we all need to from time to time. Where abouts do you live and if any of us are close we can keep a look out for a job that would be suitable. Hope you day gets better. XXXX |

Hello and Happy Birthday
Please do not worry too much about your mare at our Yard we have a combined herd of 22 horses mares and geldings. We have a dominant mare which is natural herd instinct as wild herds may have a stallion as leader but it is the dominant mare who keeps everyone in order. It's not out of bounds to take a lunge whip and tell her in firm terms to keep back- the mare at our stables knows to keep back when it is not her turn. Also with this weather whenever an owner arrives their own horse will just gallop to the gate when called, but good luck and don't be depressed. I am a couple of years older than you and there is no way I feel old!!! What sort of work are you looking for?
Again Cheers and a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Sound advice from Alison,we've had similar problems with another mare at my old yard and everyone carried a lunge whip....nobody needed to use it,just an extension of your arm I suppose.Good luck finding work and you are only 2 years older than me and whats a couple of years between friends? As for alcohol...its never too early on your birthday...go on,pour yourself a stiff one.CHEERS and HAP YER BIRDY |

Well said TC I wouldn't like people to think we used the lunge whip on a horse it is just to set bounderies, and yes what is a few years between friends lets all celebrate tonight and raise a glass to 'Slave to Magic' you really are only as old as you feel.
Chin up and Cheeers Ali

Thanks guys. You do make me laugh! Feeling abit better. No long term solution to my exhuberant mare problem but Im going to make sure that she is turned out after most of the field traffic has gone through. I dont mind others carrying a lunging whip but some of them take 2 horses at once so would be difficult. Anyhooo, Im not worrying any more tonight. With glass of Wolfblass in hand, CHEERS EVERYONE! |

awww sorry to hear you're so down. 42 is nothing - I am 45!! eek ! As for your mare, just tell everyone to growl and wave a stick/lunge whip at her - she'll get the message. she's being perfectly normal.
Job wise it's a bit grim - I am working at a call centre, and I hate it, hopefully something will turn up for you.
Try not to get too isolated - get out and about and talk to people - you never know - apart from being good company, some might make good friends or turn out to be good contacts into jobs.
Good Luck - many of us know how you feel x |

Happy birthday hun, hope the wine is running and your feeling better. Sorry about the job, i am in the same situation its pants isnt it. As for your girl, could you section her off with electric fencing so that you have a track to the other fields and the others can still get turned out without having to walk through her field? I used to turn mine out and the rest used to go through her field. Amber just wanted to say hi, but said it to the wrong mare, huge fight, broken hand (not mine ) and a vet call out, YO changed routine after this. |
