Well we are home from liphook, Minty has had the op and came through the anaesthetic really well,BUT, when the surgeons looked inside the leg the damage was much worse than anyone could have predictedit wasn`t just scarring to the DDFTsheath, the whole tendon was lacerated and although they cut the annular ligament the scarring was too severe to remove it properly, it was totally stuck to the surrounding tissue they did the best they could but the prognosis seems to be that it is unlikely (short of a miracle)she will ever be able to return to any form of ridden work Im devastated, the only cosolation is, that she will be much more comfortable in the field so im glad i went ahead with it and at least shes still with us! she is such a special horse and has done so much for me i just hope she will take to a life in the field. Thank you so much to everybody who offered support on the panel forum,it helped more than you can imagine Minty could do with some healing thoughts being sent her way please! Emma X

Sorry to hear your news and I can appreciate how devastated you are feeling. Time is a great healer and all you can do is take each day at a time. Fingers crossed for a continued good recovery. |

Healing vibes Minty!
When I retired my boy from top level endurance I always worried about him being a field ornament but he is a very happy horse looking after my youngsters for me! I'm sure Minty will do just fine! |

At least you are commited to her and thats a fantastic thing.Miracles do happen and I send you all my love and healing vibes. My mare had to be retired early and we had may years of fun ,she loved being in the field and not being ridden and lived til she was 32,a happy and healthy life with lots of love from everyone at our yard and she adored bossing everyone about, both human and equine |

Sending Minty healing thoughts, but don't underestimate just how tough an Arab is. I have heard of many 'miracles' with Arab horses. One that I had bred and sold to a friend severed a deep flexor tendon, vets gave a very poor prognosis and tried to persuade the owner to put him down because he would never be ridden again. He was 7 at the time. She refused and nursed him through the accident. It took time, but 4 years later he is fit enough to be ridden gently.
Sending hugs to you and Minty and wishing her the best recovery.

Thanks everybody, well at least shes feeling better! she`s managing to stand on only two legs so she can beg for treats!! so defo feeling better, little madam! she had her bandage changed today and it actually looks better than it has for a long time, even if they have shaved her leg up past the hock (so a bit chilly!) she has a very nice pink bandage on which cheered us both up,i have been spending loads of time with her so shes not too bored, finding lots of ways to amuse her, she really likes her fruit & veg kebabs that we put on string and hang from the roof! its quite funny to watch her with it, i will try and post some photos tomorrow, Thanks again for all your help, support and healing wishes, you really are a fantastic lot of people, you have all really helped me get through this!
