Hi Eskar has a very annoying vice when stabled at night. every winter he rubs his forelock away and if stabled at all in summer deoes it. he does it on concrete block stables and after a couple of weeks of being in has no forelock. putting a fly mask on helps a bit but even with that on he rubs it out. does anyone have any suggestions on how to deter him from doing it. he has a good diet ad lib haylage and is out by day and in work. its just seems to be a naughtyt habit he desn't rub anything else and is happy to be in Kirsty
I dont know if this will help - but I have a mare who rubs a section of her neck (only one part of, about a quarter of the way down her neck) and she rubs the mane off completely just in that section ending up looking ridiculous. She does it stabled or in summer against the field shelter. The only way I stopped it was by using lice treatment shampoo on a really regular basis. You could clearly see she had no lice, but rubbing it in and leaving it a while before washing out, really stopped the rubbing and even allowed the mane to grow again. It's now a third of the way grown back (long mane) and has taken a year to get that far. But I've kept on with the washing! Something must have made her itch and I think she has an "itchy" spot there, and if left she will rub it raw. Good Luck
Mabey not much help but mabey he doesn't like being kept in? My guys much happier out with access to 24hr access to sheltermy boy used to weave when i got him, not a problem for an outside horse. Anne
