I know we will not be the only Arab Group suffering at the hands of trophy-hoarders
Here is HALF of the silverware that went missing from the North Wales Gp shows... the auction last year bought new championship cups (blooming nice ones too) but it is the history that is missed, sponsors and winners...
Doesn't it make you mad Now we have to be like evil militent wardens when people sign for them... competitors work very hard to win classes and champs, they deserve a trophy!!
If anyone knows of a supplier of really good quality medals (like ones given to the juniors at Haydock the year the prize money never came through) could you let me know ? It's an option for future events - a fab rosette and a medal to keep...

My friend bought some lovely little cast paperweight things for the prizes, i am not describing them very well at all, they were beautiful, heavy cast discs with emboss of an arab head. all boxed up beautifully, Will see if i can find out the supplier for you. |

That is really dreadful. Being a real novice and amateur on the showing side, I was so utterly thrilled with my very first cup and during the year I had it, I lost the lovely mare who won it. Even more poignant for me was that my good friend, and my mare's equine friend and look-a-like were the previous names on the cup. Engraved on there now forever. Just like you say - history and important no matter what level you compete at. Good luck in getting nice new supplies. |

yes and problem is some of the worst offenders are blantant liars swearing on their mothers life that they posted them, yeah, same year after year. Should be banned from shows unless they can produce proof of posting with a signed for delivery. |

Thanks SarahA - that'd be good if you could recommend a supplier
There is a cup at a local agri show (ridden ch) been going since 1968 and every time it comes home with us I giggle at the names on there... cups are expensive!!
Our other bugbear is things coming back BADLY damaged with no explanation / offer to repair / replace... if you can't look after it, don't sign for it! Let the show have it engraved and hang on to it |

Don't get me started!!!!! I have been trying to get back Stafford Riding Club trophies for presentation next week and have been fit to kill some of the ungrateful b******s. My blood pressure is sky high and if anyone has the number of a good hit-man..... It is so disappointing when trophies are not available becuase some selfish sod has kept them and it has happened to me time after time. I treasure all my rosettes and trophies and can't understand how other people manage to damage or lose them. North Staffs AHS gave lovely medallions to all class winners several years ago at the summer show. I think they were made by North Light - Pat Day would know. |

Hi. Checked with my friend and it was another member that bought them, i will pm you the names. We once purchased a very expensive ornament of a horse and foal as a trophy this was in memory of my friend who sadly died in a tragic accident with horses and she used to attend this particular show every year, it really was lovely, engraved in her memory, class was named after her. And i doubt very much if this one is still on the circuit. It really was a very nice ornament. Must pop in and check when i pass. I will be fuming if its gone walk about though. |

I once won a cup dated from over 50 yrs ago. It had my neighbours name on there from 20 + yrs ago, i took it top the pub to show everyone he was older that he made out!
Towerlands give out medals, perhaps you could contact them and ask who they get them from.
It is disappointing when you win and dont get the trophy as you dont get the chance to get your name engraved. Im still waiting for one from Bicton this year, i did however get to take home a beautiful garland made by Rhi Jones, only thing is im not sure the best way to dust it! |

Yep i agree something sud be done maybe a contract regarding return or a large fee charged and stating only recorded post or face to face delivery accepted. It must be hard for the shows to trace all the time the cups but its very upsetting for winners like me at malvern to not yet recieve the two trphies won. I wud be more than happy to sign contracts re safe return. Maybe the shows can have a little hand glass momentum to keep, my local shows do this aswell as the years trophy so you got something to keep. |

We have the same problem with the Riding Club.... we don't give them out anymore - we get them engraved and keep them!!!
I won a gorgeous cup this year which I have to give back, BUT there is no space for engraving as it was a new one due to the old one going missing and they can't be bothered with the hassle (apparently the old one was a gorgeoud horses head about 15yrs old) - think they only let me take it home as they know where I live! Lol! |

At both our local clubs you get the big trophy and your name on it, which stays put, but you get a photo, and a small replica trophy to keep. This has cut donw on haing to buy replacements!!!!! I did get a lovely horses head medal a few years back....can't remember what class it was for (have slept since then!) but will find and post a piccie....and see if I can find out who supplied it....it's quite big and heavy, makes a lovely keepsake, you could have class number and show and Winner's name engraved on the reverse and the year. Give the winner a piccie with the trophy. Cuts down on people pinching them!!!!

I think we had to sign for our trophies and hand over a deposit that you got back when the trophy was returned on time, and in good condition. But of course, even with the deposit if people are that careless about something they've gone to all the effort of winning, then they probably dont care about the deposit either. I cherished mine as it was my first and probably last ! I think a Big Trophy with your name on retained by the club, but with a photo session where you can buy the piccie, and then a small token sounds like a nice idea. |

Yep a picture and small token wud keep me happy. Its just the problems when the trophies arent there to even have a oic with like me at malvern. But really for example £50 deposit isnt really alot for how much the throphys are worth and the fact they cant ever be replaced. There is bound to be the nasty ones that think its worth more to keep to them then get there deposit back.

Ugh, trophies are a nightmare for our group too (norfolk and suffolk). We were getting trophies back in terrible condition - dirty and broken (!) and our poor trophy sec was having such a hard time even GETTING them back at all, then spending so much time cleaning them. We decided to charge a £25 deposit per trophy, so people then have the choice to take them or not. It is such a shame as it spoils it for everyone else. We also spent a bit more money on our rosettes to make them really special, and now are ordering small silver coloured engraved plates to give to winners instead. Personally if I win a trophy it is treasured, cleaned and returned in pristine condition as I am so proud to have won one! I will ask our trophy sec where she has ordered the plates from and post a link. |
