Kira and I have been having a few issues since I bought her in early may, I absolutly adore her and on of the reasons among others for her bad behaviour is that I have let her get away with being a little cheeky.
I had a monty roberts ra come out last week to try and help set us back on the right path and do you know what it's been fantastic. This week her leading (in a dually headcollar) she is brilliant really learning to be respectful of my personal space again, she is starting to relax in herself now she has some real leadership and not just vague suggestions coming from me and all in all I feel so much happier.
I am still in pain where she dislocated my finger twice so we have only been working on leading this week while it heals. My trainer will be back at the weekend to help with longreing as on the long reins she bronks which is slightly unnerving when on your own with her. We use no whip or nastiness with her just clear instructions and you can almost see the relief in her face.
Today she has had her first injection and a microchip and the vet checked her for any physical reason for the bronking, all is well she was good for the vet and only flinched at the needle no nastiness at all.
We then had the saddler come and fit them both for saddles (although Kira is a while off working I wanted to know the saddle wouldn't hurt her when we do get there.)
Then we had the trimmer come and she was really good and trotted up in hand brilliantly for her and stood 100% for her (she sat down on her last time)
After all that I stood there for a minute and we had a little cuddle and she nuzzled me (before the RAs visit we had no nice moments like this at all) it really was something special for me, I think in time with the right people making sure I do right by her we'll get on really well and have a good partnership

Well done. It's lovely when you're rewarded for your efforts. Things will get better and better. Had to smile at vision of her sitting on the trimmer, although I know its not really funny! |

just takes time hun.....Crystal and me hated each other for the first 6 months....and now, 14 years down the line, we are both still in one piece, and she's my girl! You'll get through all the nasty bits, and come out the other side with a bond of solid steel....trust me, I've been there, and I don't think that theres anyone who hasn't with these lovely and infuritating arabs that share our lives!

I agree. All of mine have been trauma kittens when we started. I hated my gelding - Not when I first got him, but the more I couldn't do anything with him. Now we've come on in leaps and bounds and you forget sometimes how far you've come. I dont know if it's just Arabs or if other horses are the same. I do wonder if certain people DO have a habit of picking certain horses. My friends theory is that the horses find us ..... Wishing you a long life of love happiness and cuddles with your girl. You want them to love you so much, and when it comes right - isnt it wonderful ! You've put a lovely happy smile on my face |
