Does anyone have any information on Safari? Other than his breeding I know nothing about him. Or isn't there anything to tell, lol?

What kind of info are you after? I never met the horse - before my time - but it is interesting old English breeding. He had quite a few foals, most of them from another interesting pedigree, the Sahran mare Sahmoh. He has a tail male descendant born in 1999 called Arysstocrat, bred by a Lyn Leaver. Many of the other branches have petered out or been bred to imported bloodlines - there were quite a few descendants at one time but less now. |

Thanks Anthea. I'm interested in any info at all really. He's my mare's dam sire. My mare's dam, Fairy, is said to have been pure bred arab but unregistered and no records of her breeding. So, the only info I have on the dam's side of the pedigree is through Safari. I know a bit about his sire Algol, but nothing about him. |

Our first Arab Filly Safella was out of Safari's daughter Safire who was out Sahmoh. Safella was bred by a Mr Banks who would not have any Rissalix blood in his breeding programme. There are very few English non Rissalix horses around now. Safella and Safari were both bay. Safella was by K of K who belonged to Mr Hough a very early breeder of Arabs. He lived near Epping in Essex. We saw K of K when we went to see Safella. He was a dark bay and very impressive. He was definitely the early English type of Arab. Safella always produced bays although all husbands were chestnut apart from the first one Romac. Mr Banks told us that Safari was a bright chestnut and had produced palominos. He had a couple of his daughters. I think the other one was Safanna. Mr Bank's two Safari daughters were both bay and the tall leggy type of Arabs. They were about 15hh, small horses on long legs. Safella's children were all like this as well, even her son Rodya who was by a 14.2 stallion grew to over 15.1. They certainly had height there. Your problem when looking for information is that the blodlines are very old and not meny remember them.
Hope this is of interest.

Thank you Ziadomira, that's very interesting. :)
Just out of curiosity, why would Mr Banks not have any Rissalix blood in his breeding programme?

Hi Tab
Not quite sure why Mr Banks would not have Rissalix blood. Maybe because his horses had none he thought it was good to have an outcross as there was so little that was Rissalix free.
Sadly Mr Banks died some years ago so we can't ask him now and when we bought his filly we did not know much about bloodlines so never thought of asking.
