Well now we have a menage to ride in I decided to try Khan at some jumping!
Warming up
The first jump went really well.
The second I don't know what happened!
The last jump I attempted went horribly wrong! He refused and as I was about to turn him round he launched himself over it!
I think we both need some lessons!

Maybe back to basics for a while with trotting poles, but well done for staying on.

Thanks, Khan loves jumping and because he was being so good to school I thought we'd have a go! Considering what happened I wasn't scared about jumping again! I just decided to call it a day!
Mrs Vlacq, Thanks for the advice we shall start on tuesday. Will give you an update next weekend with lots of photos of how our pole work is going.
Will be posting the actual videos when they finally upload! |

Well done for trying.
Try some guide poles to make a track for him to run into so he doesn't try and duck out to the side. Put a pole at the base of the jump to give him a ground line. Concentrate on cross poles before going to a straight pole. Don't go too high too quick. Keep going at low cross poles in a trot till you both get bored with it then take the guide poles out and gradually work up to things.
He's definitely got commitment and he's honest - if he wasn't, you wouldn't have got him over the last jump but just look at him - he was nervous and pulled to one side but mum said go so - he went!! Keep going slowly and consistently and he'll be terrific. Don't rush and then he won't snatch the reins and you'll be able to keep that lovely rhythm and then when you compete, you'll knock seconds off the time in the jump off (the time gets wasted when the horse snatches the reins and you have to put in a pull to steady them and then they rush a fence).
He's cracker - good on you xx |
