Does anyone know this young stallion. He looks PBA possibly partbred welsh. Sorry couldnt get a good head shot as couldnt keep him out of the hay. He is in poor condition, I am not looking to accuse, just would love to know his breeding/parentage. Can't believe he isnt well bred.

I'm afraid no clues. I cannot get any information sadly. He will be a stunner fattened up. I would keep him to breed him if he had any chance of papers. Otherwise I will have to geld him. He is three years old, and comes from the essex area ish! |

He is gorgeous! Will look lovely when he has some weight on him. Did he come with a pet name? As that might hold a clue. |

No pet name, no passport. He is 3. around 14.3hh. He came from a dealer who has no idea of his back ground. Just wanted rid really. And probably doesnt want to pass on previous owner information, if they know it of course. |

No passport? You could try the AHS if you know he is definately a three year old, they don't have too many part bred Arabs registered that a palomino colt would be hard to find, similarly with the Welsh Pony and cob society, less part bred Welsh than in the other sections. More to trawl through probably with palomino's but if registered his markings sould correspond.
Looks a very nice boy, his story if you discover it would be very interesting.

It is an offence to sell horses without passports, how well do you know the dealer? he could be in for some grief if you made a complaint, is there enough leverage to get him to be more forthcoming on his origins?

He could possibly have been stolen.
Personally I would try and investigate further, as you are obviously doing but it might be worth informing the Police (and I know they are pretty busy - to be polite), but they may have a horse of his description on their records. A frantic owner could be out there somewhere
Good luck, and I hope this is a 'happy ending' story (I'm sure it will be if he stays with you), and please keep us informed.

I don't think there is a frantic owner. The dealer in question is known by me and is authorised by Defra to issue passports to animals without one. It is common for horses to arrive at sales etc without any paperwork and one is issued on the spot so to speak. I will be getting one through the post soon, but obviously not one from a registry. I doubt he is actually registered but if I can find out his parentage it may be possible to do so. |

He looks a nice horse from what I can see. Good luck with him.
One thing though, you mention the person who sold him to you is authorised by Defra to supply a passport if one is not readily available.... Surely this makes a mockery of the system... He/They could refrain from supplying the original passport, and issue a new one, which would not give any breeding information, nor indeed previous owners.
This is by no way aimed at you, but it does seem a waste of money to purchase an original passport if this sort of thing is going on.
I also thought it was illegal to sell a horse without a passport, in which case, (He) in this instance, should have reported the person he purchased the horse from.....

Hi there
Please be careful here. I have recently bought a new arab which was sold as unregistered with the AHS and came with a bog-standard passport. I have since found out that he IS registered, is very well bred and has been "missing" for a couple of years after being sold without the owners permission
Thankfully his legal owner has been very generous and supportive and we are currently in the process of getting all his paperwork sorted out so he can be signed over to me.
I would not wish these last few weeks on anyone - I have been on cloud nine one minute then absolute bits the next . I'm now on tenterhooks waiting for everything to go through.

I cannot go into details but he is not stolen. There are no papers 'withheld'. It is not possible to speak to his original breeder/owner. As far as passports are concerned the dealer has not withheld anything. I think you all will be surprised to learn that about 30% of the horse population does not have a passport. To cover this Defra have warrented certain dealers to passport unpapered animals that go through their hands. There is no point prosecuting, in most cases actual original ownership can be impossible to find out to press charges. As far as they are concerned that as long as every animal gets a passport over the next few years they are happy. Do you all think that every gypsy pony has a passport, I think not! A lot of horses either bought/bred before the law came in and never moved from their owners since havent got passports either. The passport law is a mockery. Any horse can be stolen and re passported, there is no way of checking, do you expect to check every bay, 10yr old gelding on the entire different passport systems to check he isnt registered somewhere else for example? I was stopped on a defra check a couple of years ago and handed them by accident the wrong passport for the horse on board. They were completely happy, on handing the passport back I realised I had give them the one for a mare and not my stallion! So whats the darn point eh? They hadnt noticed. Anyways, the point of this thread is to try to see if anyone knew or remembered the poor boy. Not about darn Defra lol! |

Ha ha, I can only echo your 'Darn Defra' statement - what a joke!!!!
So glad there is no frantic owner looking for him He will be stunning when he gains a bit of weight Good luck with him, and on tracing his bloodlines, and please post some more pictures as he puts condition on.

It makes you realize that horses can be stolen and then presented for killing and the slaughter house provide a new passport to cover the slaughter...no horse is safe... Re: this palomino, It sounds as if you already know your way around the market trade, most of the dealers are approachable and often can fill in the missing links, I know you have to read between the lines often with them, but often they have the info and it can stand up to the test. Traced many horses this way. Sue |

I will put more pics up as he improves. He had his feet done yesterday so he can now walk properly. Am getting a back person to check him too as he seems a little stiff (might just be my imagination). And teeth in a couple of weeks when the annual dentist comes round. As I said I can't go into details but was just hoping someone remembered him, maybe a neighbour or suchlike, or maybe even the breeder (I don't know if he was bred at the same place). He is certainly stallion quality, would be a shame to geld him. He has a temperament to die for and doesnt (as yet) even know he is a boy. |

Hi Pashon It is worth trying the Palomino society. You can e-mail them from their website. I have found them very helpful and speedy in the past. He does look well bred and so is likely to have been registered BPS by his breeder. I wonder if Sarah Wilkinson recognises him or if she or others know who the palomino studs are in the Essex area. There are a number of them advertised on the BPS website so might be worth dropping them a line as well.
I am sure his breeder will be sad to see him looking so poor. If his temperament is as sweet as you say he will make a lovely palomino riding horse for somebody and he can be registered there without parentage as his colour is so good.
Good luck with your search and keep us informed. Debs

Hi again Pashon This little chap has stayed on my mind. He looks a lot like a Goldenfields or Pioneerstud horse from the markings. Dont know whether the palomino breeders on here would agree.
Have pulled out my BPS magazines to see what colts have been registered in 2005 and they are as follows:
Beach Boy (unknown stallion x Pengraig Myfanwy location: Pencoed Boltwood Alchemist (unknown breeding) location: Andover Combelight Sun Kazeer (out of Combeland Countess) location: Tiverton Glanerch Jeeves (Criccieth Butch x Springbourne Della location: Pembrokeshire Yaverland Sandman (Yaverland Carousel x Ceulan Salume) location Pembrokeshire Oakhouse Miseter Sandman (Yealand Night Echo x Oakhourse Sanderling location Powys Belencanaid Limited Edition (Blaenacaid Ambasaddor x Jazzy Girl location Mid Glamorgan Nantdywyll Gudo (Cwmnantgwyn Penadur x Nantdywyll Gwennol location Anglseley Syre Davey (Goldwyn Galaxy x Primrose - location Shropshire Sarnau Goolden Virgo (Sarnau Golden Vertex x Sarnau Vinca)location Ceredigion Rising Sun II (unknown breeding - location Herts Tambrook Trick me Twice (Hardys Leonardo x Broadreed Megane - Hants Glanvrnwy Golden King (Glanvyrnwy Coming King x Glanvyrnwy Cordelia - Denbighshire Tamevalley Sahara (Penboeth Hip Hop x Gledwn Seren Dlws - Bucks Gleiniant Dandy (Thorncliffe Ranger x Gleiniant Dinah - Carmarthenshire Login Emrys (Llwynan Bondheddwr x Login Cream Puff - County Durham Owfen Mr. Softee (Erwwastad Llwynog x Owfen Rylock - Lancs Roundhills Gianni Versace (Moonshine Vision x Legend Moon Goddess - Oxon Churtoncroft Pryd (CHurtoncroft Aries x Churtoncroft Pryddest - Cheshire Mountedgcumbe Inka's Gold (Legend Ghost Moon x Mistboys Rashinka - Torpoint
As you can see there werent many registered in the Home Counties area. I hope this may give you some clues to your little man's history. Good luck Debs |

Hi Donna I did try to telephone you and left a message. You could email Jen at the BPS and ask her if she could check his markings against any 3 year old colts that they have on file - I am sure that there aren't going to be shed loads. A few of the ones listed are section A/B so don't think it will be them. If we had an idea of the area he came from, could help with the breeding or if there is any chance of the area he was bred????? I understand that there are a couple of pallys out there at the moment with wrong passports/papers - will speak off line if you are interested. You can register a pally with the palomino society with parents unknown - but I am sure this boy should have a passport somewhere as he is of passport age (not the recently issued one) If I can help give me a call Jackie |
