No reason for Sardinia imparticular, just been jetsetting looking at properties with land and in budget..our budget being £150k..and this one in Sardinia is only £79k. My Mum has been out to view it, says the house is superb, could move straight in (unlike alot of those we have viewed within budget), but she wasn't sure that the land was big enough..hence my post
I would love to move to France, or anywhere abroad..but really am struggling to find somewhere livable, with land, within budget. I bet i'm not the only one in this boat..im just sick of renting our house, not being able to have horses..or even more than our two cats..landlord changed his mind after initially saying we could have dogs, now we cant Fed up of paying someone elses mortgage, and would dearly love to finally get on the property ladder. We looked in Devon and Wales last year, but couldnt find anything even close to our budget.

Yup, in the same boat here. We are on the housing ladder (so probably in a WORSE position, as we have to sell ours first!). I haven't seen anything even vaguely suitable yet , and our budget is a bit bigger than yours. Ros |

Hi Han
That place in Sardinia looks lovely - much greener than I imagined. I'm sort of in the same boat as you. My house is on the market because I want somewhere with land and stables but no way can I afford to buy in the UK (I need to live here for my job) so will be renting - if I can ever sell my house!
Ideally we'd all have vast acres of land but this is the real world. I'd certainly consider the place in Sardinia - like you say you won't have to worry about the field being wrecked because of mud. Even if the person who owns the land won't sell or rent you any more right next to the house you could always ask other local landowners nearby if they'll rent you some. Doesn't matter if it's not right next door. With careful management and supplementary feeding you can make do with less land - most horses in UK livery yards don't have anything like 1.2 acres each and there are still many horses that get no turnout at all, especially in winter. You said in one of your posts that your horses will be getting ridden plenty - including beach rides, so it's not as if they'll never get to canter or gallop.
Good luck in your search - keep us posted! |

Thanks for the replies mogwai and loosefur Mum wants me and my OH to go for the place in Sardinia, but im still not convinced. To me the land is more important than the house, altho OH would think im mad to say that, lol! It does have a reasonable sized garden..
which we could use as another form of turn out if we got rid of all the shrubs/flowers etc..hehe!
The view from the property is lovely..
Argh! I'm so indecisive! I just want whats best for my future neds.. Could sacrifice the view, and the country...for a few more acres..*sigh*

PS: loosefur and mogwai, you have my sympathy, it must be a horrific time to try to sell..good luck and hope you have smooth moves ahead.

Hi Han, I totally sympathise with you, we couldn't afford a place in the UK with land which is one of the reasons we moved to France. I think that you would easily find a place in France with acreage within your budget. I can pass on some website address's for agents in our area (central Brittany) if you like which would give you an idea. Good luck with your search. |

It is on preference and the more the better but again its what you can afford and the avalibility of land. Local to me its hard to get your hands on so i would grab anything i could while i kept looking. But by me the council say that you need an acre per horse and you can get in trouble if you go over this. Good luck with your land hunting |

Thanks everyone for your replies, and Joto yes, auction is definately something we could look into! kastell, i would love it if you could PM me those details..France was my first choice once we realised we would have to start looking at property abroad, but so far have drawn a blank with livable properties with land. I have dismissed the property in Sardinia now, after Mum sent back more pics, the land just isnt big enough

All i can say is keep looking, something will turn up. We looked for 5 yrs and finally ended up with my dream home. I have 7 acres plus a menage, 7 stables and barn. It was quite run down and it has taken us a year of hard slog to get it right and we haven't even started on the house!! I have 3 horses on 7 acres and i have to keep having the field topped as i have too much grass! luckily its quite an old root so it is not at all rich. |

An acre per horse is the 'old' saying. Two if you want to haymake for them.
