My boy's hooves have been poor this year (change of grazing, I think, but we're heading back to where we were a year ago) and were crumbling so badly when farrier struggled to shoe him. Also developed WLD in hinds, so took shoes off early mid July and have been treating WLD, shovelling him full of biotin and they are improving. Would like to know what thoughts are on whether it is better/worse for treating WLD with/without shoes? I am restricted with hacking without shoes and he lives out 24/7, which with all this mud is a concern. I do pay particular attention to hoof hygiene. Any experiences or any products which are good?
I had a mare with wld and luckily caught it in time before it got to bad. As far as putting shoes on i would ask your blacksmith if he thinks the quality of the horn is strong enough yet to hold nails.
woooo just noticed gone platinum!!! when did that happen????
We had problems with WLD when my boy was barefoot. Best routine I found was to scrub clean with aloe vera soap then use the Pioneer herbal balm for for WLD, brill product! You have to do it daily for a while but it really works. Couple with good nutrition internally as well as the others have mentioned.
