Can anyone point me in the right direction for a list of trainers? I am based in Norfolk & have homebreds that need to go that route.

Hi Stuart,
There's a couple of A'liners who train Arabian racehorses namely Sam Davison (Sammy D) and Angela Colledge (Ang).
The racing section here gives all the reviews from this seasons meetings.
Go to www.aroracing.co.uk for the Official Arabian Racing Site and there's a list of Arab race horse trainers as well.
How are your racing youngsters bred?
Paul

Paul, Thank you for link. My arabs are all straight egyptian - so not current race breeding. The ones I have in mind are 3 x 5yo & 1 x 2yo. Needing an outlet - my background is Eventing & Dressage so I am out of my comfort zone, all info gratefully received!!! |

Very interesting, my filly Sakeena Sky Zayin is 80% Egyptian blood and was 2nd on her debut, these lines tend to do well not forgetting the wonderful Crusader who sired many decent races horse the best being Bas Hisaan. The 3 five yr olds should be fine as I think thats a perfect age to race (Sky was 5 this year and made her debut in July). I would wait a year or so for the 2 yr old though, our 3 yr old racing is very tough and its only really the French lines that tend to perform well at this age, I also would avoid race fillys until their minimum of 4 yrs old but thats just my opinion.
With your background you obviously know an athletes outline so look forward to seeing your horses racing next year. I have a Russian/Polish/Crabbet filly I may race next year or a Spanish/Russian/Polish, both 4 yrs old. I do have french breds but I don't believe Arabs have to be French to race.

Paul, Thank you for that - I was thinking that the older ones may have "missed" their window & younger one was premature - she can have another summer as she is over 15hh now. 5yo are 14.2hh - 14.3hh &15.1hh respectivly - all by Assad(DE) so as a 3/4 brother to Salaa el Dine there may be some speed lineage! 2yo is by Pashaan.

Yes agree with Paul you don't have to have a french bred to race. I raced my own spanish/egyptian mare (Ansata breeding) as an owner trainer jockey and had fun and success (sure she'd have won more if a tidy jockey had ridden her !) Would say though to do your homework re finding a trainer as you would if you were sending your horse(s) away for any sort of training ie refereneces, able to visit when you like etc Best of luck and look forward to seeing them on the racecourse |

Hi Stuart, Welcome to AL! Definately not too old to race at 5 yrs ( a lot of arabs start later), and would agree with Paul that you'd probably hold on a bit longer with the 2yr old. We have horses in the yard from 3-10yrs that are racing successfully. Racing is at Market Rasen on Saturday if you could make it to watch and get a good idea. If you can make it, we could meet up at the course and show you around. Sam.

Stuart
Welcome to AL and hopefully welcome to Arab racing. You would be very welcome to join us at a race meeting and see what it is all about and meet up with all of us. There is a meeting at Market Rasen this coming Saturday where we will be with 6 runners, and an extra pair of hands would always be welcome. You might also want to contact Caroline De Wilde who lives in Garvestone near Norwich, and is an owner trainer jockey with one horse in race training.

Assad was a lovely sire and yes Salaa El Din is Crusader's lines and he produced some excellent performers. All good sizes, we have all sorts racing big 16 hands and a little 14.2, although I am considering racing a 14 hander next year...my mighty midget!
Looking forward to seeing them on the track. Send me your e-mail address and I'll reply to your latest PM.
Your fillies sound great, looking forward to seeing some Arabian beauties on the track next year.
My 3 yr olds are drawing straws as to who will race next year at 4 and forgo the sunbathing and pigging out!
