I fed up to the back teeth of seeing over and over again cases of animal cruelty. I know it goes on. You all know it goes on. Its not acceptable. The You Tube thread for example. Such fun for those Yobs. Fun for that youngster - None of us or anyone in the right mind would think so. But You Tube are happy to broadcast it. What is wrong with the world. People are VILE!!!!!!
Rant over.

What also worries me is if you read some of the comments (even on the normal videos) people are really agressive, weird and foul to each other. Why is there so much anger out there? |

Why so much anger?
Because people EXPECT that the world/universe owes them (money, jobs, whatever), aren't prepared to get off their backsides and then get angry when they don't get what they want.
Because compassion seems to have disappeared. Along with self-control, manners, being nice to one another and doing as you would be done by.
Because there is a lack of discipline. In the home, at schools.
Because children now rule the roost. They expect their parents to give them everything on a plate. They aren't disciplined and taught wrong from right.
Becaue the family unit, as I knew it, has disappeared.
So much wrong with modern society. Don't get me wrong. Many people aren't like that at all and are thoroughly decent people. But unfortunately it seems the nasty minority are those ruling the headlines, and ruling society.

I dont know Offira & Pixie, but I totally agree with you... I, and the people I know are so kind, fair enough we dont have the p*$$ taken out of us but we will always lend a hand and would never even consider inflicting pain or discomfort on a animal or human for that matter, it just seems like these ;things that go on' must be from a different world...?? |

I agree with what everyone else has said. what I find worrying is that there on so many pics of VERY underweight horses about - its July. What will these horses look like by February? Very sad world we live in. Lisa |

youngsters like those in the you tube clip are no longer taught respect for anything.
its like here where I grew up we had such troubles with the local louts with their mini motor cycles,my friend who is a few years younger than me wsa out riding once & the little sods came up behind her on their motorcycles then would rev the bike when they reached the horses flanks then go past & come back & do it again, just for a hooting laugh, in the end it took a change of road rules & threats of police acton to get them to learn better behaviour, now 1 or 2 ride dirt bikes in competition & have a special area to ride on but it shouldn've come to that at all.. |

I agree that it's the parents fault - those boys clearly have no idea that what they are doing is wrong otherwise surely they wouldn't have posted it on You tube. Then again what do I know maybe they get pleasure out of people getting upset. Something needs to be done about the way this country is going I am so glad I was a child when I was and not now! |

Think this quote somes it all up well
Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages. ~Thomas A. Edison
How can we expect people to treat animals with dignity and respect while we still think its ok to eat them, wear them, test on them and steal their children? Michelle

No harm in ranting but it doesn't help. Many years ago when I realised the extent of animal cruelty that goes on I decided the only way I was going to be able to carry on living in this awful world was to help animals in every way I can. So I do a lot of hands on rescuing, and I am involved with a society that does a lot of public campaigning and political lobbying. Change doesn't happen overnight, it happens painfully slowly, but it won't happen at all if no one does anything. Along the way I have discovered that the world isn't completely awful because I have met some wonderful people who are working for animals. I have very strong opinions, and stand by them---polite I am not when it comes to abuse of animals , though face to face I can be incredibly diplomatic ----falling out with people doesn't get the animal to safety. It often puzzles me on here that my whole hearted defence of animals leads to people thinking I am nasty or even laughable. Hey ho.
ETA---just seen your post Ghaleem--must have posted at the same time---good quote |

I hate abuse of any animal, I think like others have said the society we are now living in is starting to look like we are going back to the dark ages. It is a throw away society and like material thing animals suffer in that way to.
The boys in this video are stereo typical of a lot of them that you see at sales, they just jump on them and dont care of the consequences to the poor animal, be it young or old skinny to small or badly conditioned.
I think that we should educate children in how to look after animals and teach them that they have feelings and emotions like we do.
Zan, i commend you for the work you do and hope you carry on doing it for many years to come even though i wish that you didnt have to, I dont think anyone thinks you are laughable just like i have said to you before its how things come across. I am usually very blunt and like yourself i dont care who i upset if it comes down to animal welfare, I just think it not realistic to think we can save all of the animals all of the time as much as i wish we could

THERE ARE NO CONSEQUENCES to bad /evil/antisocial/disrespectful/downright unacceptable behaviour any more; so you get kids holding and attaching value to NOTHING, not their parents, teachers adults even their friends. I watched the vid of the horses being transported across europe....makes me sick to my stomach.... and it is the same countries who transport another of their exports to the UK, girls as young as 12y old who have arrived at our shores EXACTLY the same way. is it just me or are compassionate humans , who know right from wrong , are now an endangered species??......nearly extinct?? |

I agree with all that's been said and the reasons why there is so much anger and cruelty in our society today, but I can't help but think through experience that the main reason is poor parenting.
I also hate the way the government are so reactive AFTER events, all just playing politics and to look like they are doing something. IMO they should be putting time, money and training into the roots, i.e. parenting. Yes it will take time but what else do we have and time is running out. Too often these politicians are IMO far too far removed from ordinary society, if things were touching them personally I think they would buck up!
I can't help but see these people a cancer on our society and without wanting to sound melodramatic, our society is doomed if it is not addressed PROPERLY. There is only so long the host can withstand such a disease. Sadly too, the minority are rapidly becoming the majority.

Fantastic post Gemma. It could have been written from my heart.
Pixie, you are always there, bless you.
Zan, (Heather has become a great friend through this site, just wished we lived closer, we would get on so well) Shes, a better person than me because she voices RIGHT from WRONG strongly. I just dont want to upset those that sit on the fence. Those that are cruel, to whatever, I would gladly knock off.
The rest of you that have posted on this thread are always there to support. So Bless you all, I hope to shake your hands one day. Because you are the ones that Goldenmane refers too

The animals need people like Zan, time and time again she posts her true feelings on here and often gets slated for it. I often wanted to post how i felt but didnt want to be disliked for it. The animals dont need our tears and our excuses, they need us to get up off our backsides and fight for them!

I am too knackered to rant, just came in to the office to warm up while a drip finishes running on a very sick mare we have in ... yet another night sleeping on the operating table! but agree with you all, Gemma you are dead right imo, ( btw I do live halfway up a mountain in my lovely Wales and it is heaven). There is nothing wrong with ranting but just two things, firstly it is far, far better to do something positive... and lots can be done, from the way we bring up children in our families, the way we treat other people and animals, to supporting the work of welfare charities particularly those that put a lot of effort and resources into education such as SPANA. Secondly when it all gets too depressing just go and spend some time with your horse... the best therapy known to mankind. Lisa |

Excuse ME!!!!! but animals do need our tears because if something effects you that much that it brings tears to your eyes then YOU FEEL ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING!!!!!!! so cry out loud so that you can be heard and do not fear what people think of you and that you get labeled a weirdo if just one person listens to each of us then the ranks will grow our voices together are louder and just maybe someone somewhere will listen and only then when we are strong can we do something, when your one person in a crowd it is sooo hard, but never give up |

Was that at me Gerri? Please believe me I do rant ..ask anyone I know! and I haven't got a tv but the hideous things that I hear on the radio news make me cry nearly every day, I just meant that we all here feel the same but it is only by our feelings being translated into positive actions that we will make any difference at all. If it wasn't directed at me sorry I misunderstood... v tired, going to check the mare again now! Lisa |

I think it was directed at me, i am sorry i upset you so much Gerri but i think you got me wrong I didnt say its not ok to cry, i cry every day over the suffering of animals after some of the awful things i have seen. What i meant was crying wont do them any good if people dont stand up for them. When i do protests and stalls people come on to me and say "oh i would love to do something but it just upsets me too much to look". Thats why people get away with the abuse and with treating animals like mere comodities, because most of the time we just shut our eyes to the suffering

I didn't watch this as I find it far too upsetting the way society is today actually put me off having kids well its one reason in my day bullying was bad enough I hate to think what its like these days, yes there are some compassionate people left me for one but sadly it seems we are rare! I get accused of being far too soft but I don't care. Videos of the way those horses are transported never leave my mind, I've sent postcards off protesting about it signed petitions but you always wish you could do more.
Gemma I couldn't agree more with what you have written a lady I was speaking to today in work has 3 kids and said she is fed up of the way the other parents do not bother to discipline theirs and give in to their every request and whim and wonder why they end up with uncontrollable teenagers. |
My horse is my very best friend. Nothing in the world can separate us. When he dies I know he'll be waiting for me at the gate... just like always.
