sort of following on from the swollen leg thread. Is anyone have a lot of trouble with all the flies that are about? My mob are getting terriblt weepy and sore eyes. they have fly masks but often seem to roll or rub and remove them and it doesnt take long for the flies to do the damage. Also does anyone leave the masks on 24/7? the flies are just horrendous at the moment.

A friend of mine leaves the mask on her warmblood 24/7 apart from when he is ridden. She has two masks on the go and keeps washing them under the tap. He seems to be fine about having the mask on 24/7.

Quite a lot of the horses at my yard have had eye problems this year. Where we are its very windy and usually flies are not that much of a problem. Its a bit strange really. Sorry I'm boring you now. lol

For those prone to fly/weepy eyes (especially the older purebreds with nice 'dry' heads) we're finding Pure Gold to be brilliant - sold by Sweet Itch Hotline (who are neighbours of ours) it is an organic barrier cream (no scent etc to irritate) - also great for ears, heels, belly and sheath - anywhere with fine skin. Think Golden Eye Ointment is similar too.

Meant to add that the Pure Gold is so good we have not (so far) had to mask an anglo mare who has very little lower eyelid left after sarcoid treatment)
