What a lovely day !
This is such a friendly show in a lovely setting - this year we were blessed with some fantastic judges (including Caroline Reeves, Sue Bundy and Om My God Mr Constanti himself, breeder of some of the most beautiful Arabs in the world (in my humble opinion).
There was a great turn out for the fillies (colts a little more sparce)and some real quality gals there (as commented by Mr Constanti to all the exhibitors as they were leaving the ring, which I thought was nice). Sadly no mares forward for the with foal classes, but the senior stallion class was well filled and won by the fabulous Ali Khamsin.
Sadly only one horse forward for the veteran stallions, but hey it wouldn't have mattered if there were 20 because RUSLEEM would still have won !
Greeted by the loudest applause and cheers of the day, the old boy looked fabulous, coat gleaming and absolutely full of himself, showing us all that he can still strut his stuff ! He looked half his age and his condition was a real credit to Tina Atherton. What a horse.
Sorry, I've no piccies and forgot to write down the results (rubbish I know).....I was too busy trying to work out how to kidnap Mr Constanti (sp ?had a few glasses of vino now!)and hold him to ransom in exchange for semen from Sanadik, Shahmaan and Exquisit......sadly my partners in crime chickened out at the last minute...Particularly disappointing as at one point he was chatting with Caroline Reeves and I could have added Bahreyn into the mix....
Yes I know, Im not very well
On a more serious note, thanks must go to the organisers for securing judges of such high esteem ,and for all the exhibitors (there were some lovely horses there)who enabled those of us being lazy and not showing athing to have a lovely day out
Think I better shut up now.

I had a great day too and agree that Rusleem was outstanding - what a fantastic looking old boy he was - and definitely didn't look his age! Hopefully next year I will be able to take a couple of foals in the part bred class all being well! |

Fab pics Paul.
Must admit I was gutted he didn't win Supreme - he is so charismatic and really the 'people's champion'.
Still, Ali Khamsin is a beautiful boy..... |

What a lovely show Bicton is we always enjoy it..... even if it took us nearly 6 hours to get there and the weather wasnt too bad, we didnt get wet and that was the main thing, we were covered in red mud but at least we stayed dry!!!!! Great to have such a fab judge..... Mr Jay Constanti himself what an honour and such lovely classes he had as well. The garlands were amazing, and I was well impressed when Rod told me Rhiannon had made them, they were beautiful.... even if Laminiah did decide to try and eat it when it was on her!!! I am so sorry I missed Rusleem, the photos of him are fantastic he looks great and in wonderful condition for his age he looks like he really enjoyed himself, it is lovely to see such well known horses coming out of retirement[;) Well done organisers you did a great job..... really sorry i forgot the trophies see you at Malvern |

Congratulations to the South West Arab Horse Group for organising a fabulous show in one of the most beautiful settings in the UK. Bicton arena reminds us of the Ascot paddocks years ago!
It was an honour to be judged by Mr Constanti who gave Laminiah 1st in her class and the Junior Female Championship.
Thanks to Rebecca for showing her and also the the backroom team who turned her out.
We could not stay to see Rusleem, but he looked fantastic in the photos. It just goes to show that funky white markings, similar to our RL Cotton Candy are accepted by judges, and the quality comes shining through.
It was also very nice to meet old and new friends from the South West.

Hi,
Would like to add my thanks to the organisers and competitiors at the show on Saturday, it really was a lovely day with a super atmosphere. The rain held off, and everyone put on such a good show despite a slightly damp arena.
I've asked Jay for his comments and this is what he had to say about his first judging appointment in the UK:
'I had a fabulous time judging the purebred females at the arabian show last Saturday in Britain and I was very impressed with the quality of the horses I evaluated. I would like to say 'Thank you' to the breeders for the privilege of judging their horses, to the trainers and handlers for doing a super job of turning them out and presenting them, and to show management for inviting me to one of the most charming venues I have ever seen.
P.S. Now if I can just figure out how to bring home some of those females and a clotted cream tea......'
Poor things - after the show I tried to find a Cream Tea place for them. Everwhere was shut and we drove miles and miles, stopping now and again for Jay to ask where we could get a 'clotted tea'?!. After about an hour, and feeling very hungry, we finally found a tea place that was open. Poor Jay and Sigi were quietly very disappointed to hear me only order ''2 teas', thinking I'd made rather a fuss about driving around half of Devon for the three of us to share two measly cups of tea.....4 scones, strawberry jam and a heart attack amount of clotted cream later they finally knew what a real Clotted Cream Tea was |

How lovely to get feedback from the judge himself - Caroline if only I'd known - my home being only an hour away you would have been more than welcome for a proper Cornish Cream Tea !
Aarque - Laminiah is beautiful - I love her sire and she is stunning too
I had the honour of meeting Rusleem again yesterday when I took Siraj to him for covering. What a character - he looked fab, has the loveliest of temperaments and something of a sense of humour
Sadly, Tina can't get on line where she lives, so she can't see any of the lovely pics or comments about the old boy, but she was chuffed to bits with the reception he got at the show.
Watch out for him at Malvern....
