She is a lovely mare, all her offspring are smashing, stunning looking with great temperaments. A pure bred foal would be very nice indeed. I think you'll know when you see the "right" one. Ros x |

l just thought of another grey [sorry] and thats
'Amlan' he is by ibn Estopa x Amellita bint Lavado
l don't know if there are any other sons of ibn Estopa in the UK as he is a full brother el Shaklan who was 1/2 spanish that makes Amlan 3/4 spanish, both parents very big show winners
although not at public stud his owners have decieded to let him have a few outside mares as he is too good not to use... they bought him from Gucci at four months old foal
l have send one of my mares to him this year.....so he gets my stamp of approvial.....another hidden treasure
ash
ps..OK.. l sent AZ Fadia [om el Azadik x Warandes Estopa] |

With so few straight spanish stallios available in the UK I would consider looking to Europe by AI
My choices would be Borneo, Thamil, El Perfecto, LM Perlamor and I am sure there are others hiiden away. Helen van Ness has at least one straight Spanish chap
In the US there is an Estopa son that I woud like to use. I believe he stands at Om el Arab, again by AI
Dr Jung also breeds spanish horses and you could do worst than have a chat with Justine Bassingdale.

For all the straight spanish fans here are some photos I have of the very beautiful LM Perlamor by El Perfecto. What a stunner he is!

What a stunning stallion!
I love El Perfecto (and yes he's bay!) but he isn't available to outside mares anymore I have emailed about Borneo - another lovely stallion and his progeny are beautiful too. |

Hi Loosefur, yes Borneo is STUNNING, you should definitely use him if you get the chance, he produces awesome offspring from all sorts of bloodlines. I will never forget the first time I saw him, he took my breath away!
Here is my homebred straight spanish Borneo daughter, SA Carmen, she is out of a Ghadames daughter.
Being ridden by Georgina Rees who has her on loan Photo by Dave Cooper
Emma D - any photos of Al Galero you can post for us please?
Would love to see some up to date photos of Amorosa De Salvadora too if anyone has any, I loved his mum, she was so beautiful! |

Your mare is beautiful - I'd be over the moon to breed something half as nice. Can I ask what she's like temperament wise, also what height is she? Sorry to be nosy! |

Hi Loosefur thanks her temperament is second to none, kind, sweet, gentle, laid back, great with kids, eager to do anything for you and be your friend. In my experience most Spanish Arabs have exceptional temperaments and always want to be in your pocket! I only have 3 horses now, but they all have spanish blood, Carmen is straight, my stallion has about 1/3 spanish blood and my filly is 1/4 spanish. To me spanish blood is very very special and always will be.
I have never measured Carmen as height doesn't really interest me, to me she is 'normal' Arab height, but I think she is about 15hh, maybe Genevieve or Georgina might have measured her as they are doing ridden showing with her and might let me know if that's not correct!
I would definitely use Borneo again if I got the chance |

I have seen Carmen in the flesh, and although the photos are beautiful, they do not show her true presence.
Her beauty, power, grace, and stride, for real, are breathtaking.
Being ridden out, (no area / size restriction) and allowed to open up would be something very special indeed.
She joins my other, 'elite band' of Girls dream to ride 'Sheena' 'Estonia' and 'Fantastica'. |

Wow thanks for all your lovely comments about Carmen , I only added her photos to the thread as Borneo was mentioned and I am such a massive fan of him and so proud to have a straight spanish daughter of his!
Pat it's funny you mention Estonia, Carmen is a 3/4 sister to her although they look very different! In fact Helen Cawley's daughter, Kate, even had Carmen on loan a few summers ago! |

Lynda that photo of Sasaki as a foal is stunning, he is so typey. I would def have used him if I could. I worked at Tudor Arabians many moons ago so I handled your Bambooki when he was with Francesca and Trevor. He was an absolute gentleman
The black stallion Zaon that the Hedleys bred and exported was a HUGE loss to this country!!! I was stunned when you put the photos up of him after your trip. And black too, so rare in a straight spanish, which are so rare anyway!
I've always been drawn to the spanish, your boy helped! And working for the Maxwells for a short time back in 1988/1989 time when they still had so many wonderful straight spanish horses in their breeding programme, I got to look after horses like Estepa, Ivernia, Cala D'or (stunning), Salvadora, La Maja, Galerito etc! No wonder my eye would always have a soft spot for them, they were imprinted in me at a young age! I always knew I wanted to breed a straight spanish for myself one day and when I saw Borneo a few years later I knew it had to be by him! At the time I only had one horse, a mare, but she was half egyptian and I had to get a straight spanish mare for him! So I waited and waited and it took me a couple of years to find her and I managed to loan Camela (Ghadames x Corona) from Dr Nancy Brook. I was delighted to acquire her as the Maxwells bred her and her dam Corona was full sister to the famous Baldosa and also the maternal grand dam of Example, so the great grand dam of El Perfecto. Perfect! And so SA Carmen was born in 2000. My only regret is not repeating the breeding the year after!

Thanks Sasha
I was on the verge of using El Perfecto but heard there was a problem with semen shipping back then and also at the time is was rather expensive so I could not really afford a failure.
May have to try begging
Ibiza is at Andrea's at the moment as we hope to get her in foal to Vervaldee for Tracy. I thought that as I am not using her someone else may have the benefit and also gets her breeding so suits everyone. Encendedore is just doing her bullock impression. |

Hi Yvonne
I thought about using El Perfecto too, but Perlamor is more typey AND grey Gerald Watson had a nice looking straight colt he bred by El Perfecto think he is out of Estepa, haven't seen him for a few years though.
Have you seen Al-Qahira's young stallion Ojinegro Qahira? He looks very nice and fab bloodlines, he is by Ghandour.
Any pics of your two ladies? |

Hi Nikki yes I noticed that too, well done to Andrew and Virginia I'm sure she will be a wonderful cross with LVA Maximus!
Both the females that you mentioned were bred by Gerald Watson and it was a total crime that they went so cheaply! The trouble is a lot of people think they need type, type, type, and find some straight spanish horses a bit 'plain', but don't seem to realise that we wouldn't have most of the top horses and especially some of the worlds greatest stallions such as El Shaklan if we didn't have/use straight spanish bloodlines, that's where they all came from!
Off the top of my head as well as El Shaklan - 3 more world famous stallions that all have straight spanish dams - Magnum Psyche (sire of WH Justice!), Eternity Ibn Navarrone-D and Escape Ibn Navarrone-D |

Really, i find that shocking that some people find them "plain"! Far from it imo.
NUTS!
And yes a complete Crime that they went so cheap-real awesome looking horses, very lucky people whoever bought the others. i'm sure the mare will have a gorjus baby by maximus. |

I would love to see a photo of Encendadora. I saw her as a young foal at the Maxwell's and she was just gorgeous, huge spanish eyes and so petite and refined. I think she was sold to Gucci.I would love to see what she turned out like.
