We are taking Akhira to his first show in a couple of weeks time. We are just doing an inhand class. What should we show him in? I have a feeling that all the Arabs may be in together as it is a show that is run mainly for working horses but they are trying to promote Arab classes. How great is that! but unless they get a lot of entries everyone will be in together. He's fantastic around our mares, but as this will his first time away from home in 8 years or so he may be a tad excited so I want to stay in control. Instructions please on how to present him! Sorry about terrible grammar!
If possible I would try and get him out and about a few times before the show just to get him used to different places. maybe take him to another yard and walk him about or even see if you can use a school somewhere and see how he reacts to ridden work somewhere new.
have e-mailed you. x

I've only seen arabs shown in the show halters (as apposed to a bridle)even at local shows. If you're concerned he maybe excited you might want to use a stallion slip which you can attach a bit to.
There used to be arab inhand classes at some of our local shows but unfortunatly are no longer held due to low entries - which is a shame! So I hope you go and support your show.
Thanks Sarah. We are definitely going as I'm all for supporting anyone who is going to put on arab classes, especially as none of our riding club shows cater for stallions.
He must be bitted as an entire. I would use an inhand halter, but if you don't have one there is no point buying one for one show, I would show in a plain snaffle bridle instead.
If you are unsure how he will react to strange horses, I would go in the ring first and ask others to keep their distance - especially in the line up - mares have a tendancy to flirt and willy waving is not a good look!
As far as presentation - eau naturel is best - a bit of baby oil or highlighter above the eye and around the muzzle to enhance his appearance. The pose is a question of what the judge likes really. If they are not an Arab person - they will prefer you to stand him up like a Riding horse/hunter etc - basically so they can see all 4 legs from the side - head and neck relaxed but not on the floor! Some arab judges prefer this too, but for the most part, they like to see the head and neck higher (enhances the appearance if done correctly)
Thanks very much Sub. W have an inhand halter that was his fathers. It comes with a stallion bit. I know I've asked this before but answers were not totally clear. Is he better in his snaffle bit or the stallion bit?
