Brought Magic in an hour ago and she's somehow managed to take the skin off the inside of her hind leg. Its really high up and I cant imagine what she's done to it. It looks like she's either been kicked (the only other mare in her field has no back shoes on so unlikely) or she's caught it somewhere. She's not lame as such but looks stiff. Whats the best thing to do? I dont know if she's pulled something higher up.

Been there twice over the past fortnight! I can sympathise. Lots of Arnica and bute as they are both anti-inflams. Amazing how well our two are recovering and its mostly been down to the arnica (recommended by our vet). If you have metacam even better. Hope she recovers soon. If in doubt call the vet.

I havent got any bute. Will the vet give me some without coming out? I prefer Danilon though as she will eat that in her food.

Arnica should help her feel more comfortable.

Dont keep her in as it could be muscular and she can go at her own pace if turned out.If she is just stiff then try to keep her moving:no box rest.Even just walk her in hand to keep her calmly moving on and it should ease off in a few days.Personally i dont like bute as it masks the pain and you need to really see how she is feeling ,but as her mum youll know best. good luck
