Thanks for your kind comments Jen, i too wish more people who breed would stand by their foals and accept that when the time to wean comes if they cannot sell them make sure they have the resources to run them on untill a suitable home can be found. There are of course times when people need to sell due to unforseen circumstances, thankfully this is rare.True breeders only want whats best for their stock and will part with their best foals to give them every opportunity in the future. Verena.
I too think V has got lovely horses that she has produced im one of the lucky people to have meet most of her horses. I think in an ideal world you would keep foals through to death but it isnt always possible. But is someone falls onto hard ground with being able to keep foals then surely its better to advertise them and find them a 5 star home than keep them and end up not being able to feed and care for them correctly. Which could in the long term do more harm than good. You cant control hard times but you just have to do the best for the horses when they arise. Its the breeders that send their foals to sales and get £10 a piece off the meat men that need to be shot and ran down not people that are doing the best for the horses/foals.
i certainly wasn't implying my comments to anyone on here, sorry if anyone took offence.
i was just sharing an experience i had, yes people fall on hard times, aned thats really sad. but in my exp. these people bred knowing full well they couldn't afford it, and the horses suffered because of it.
sorry if mine read sharp, not meant to. I would love to have a foal of my lively mare but i cant afford to keep another horse and i wouldnt want to part with new foal so no breeding for me. I do feel sorry for all the foals i see for sale at very low prices it makes me wonder where they will end up.
