Okay then who got the winner? Mine did nothing but I did like that Khandah Run of Michael Stoute's. Very nicely put together horse I thought. Ought to be doing a different job maybe. |

mine was nowhere as well! Didn't want New Approach to win, he is by Galileo and i think Montjeu is the best! now N.A has won, we won't hear the end of how great Galileo is................. even tho Montjeu has had 2 out of the last 4 derby winners
(BTW Khandahar Run is trained by Henry Cecil, M.Stoute trained the second, Tartan Bearer) |

Sorry Jamana, my memory is the pits. Still a nice horse though. I do wonder about the leading down with another horse. Is this the thin end of the wedge? They do that in the USA as a matter of course, is it going to become the fashion here I wonder? I realise that this horse had a particular reason for doing it, but will others want to jump on the bandwagon? |

New approach has always been of he 'nervy' type coming down to a start on a course, he was given permission for him to have a lead as I did see him he last time he raced have an absolute fit in the paddock, it took them 20 minutes to get him from the pre parade ring to the parade ring and saddled up. The Jockey Club have since given him permission to be saddled in the stables and to have a lead down to the start, from his companion.
The smile on Princess Haya's face was worth a million yesterday she was positively radiant with joy. N A was a present from her husband for her and she very generously creditied the win to his kind gesture in giving her the horse, and the fact that her husband told her that the horse woulg never really make a decent racer!

I *think* that the JC have allowed ponying to the start for about 3 years now. It is an option open to any runner, just not what UK horses are generally used to. Personally I think it looks rather awkward, all bumping toghether and getting their legs tangele. |

Thought it was a good race although as it was a fairly open one to my mind. Not what you would say the best field in recent years. I did think that New Approach was the class horse in the race but not sure whether it would stay the extra half mile. Oh yes he did and very well too.
Agree about Kandahar Run - but he lost his race being too free going down to the start and also ran too freely in the race. Shame, it would have been nice to see a grey winner !
Roll on Royal Ascot !! |
