My back garden gate leads on to a huge field which was left in trust to the council and thank goodness can never be built on...
tonight when i was looking out I spotted two beautiful dark red deers grazing.... never seen them ever before...
Across the road, horrible developers are sacrificing miles of grassland for new houses... I can only assume that the deers have been disturbed and crossed the main road and found safety over here...
Why can't we leave land untouched these days... its so sad...

Because the Government, in their infinite wisdom, think we need to build more houses. No we don't. There are lots of perfectly sound buildings which could be converted/improved to provide reasonably priced housing. What we really need to do is close our doors for a while to stop the influx of benefit seekers from far and wide. We are a tiny island with too many people. End of. |

I was having the same conversation last night, there are loads of migrant workers who have the 'right' to come to the UK, who then claim all the family benefit top ups to be sent back to their country of origin for the children there. I do have personal knowledge of some doing jobs 'under the radar', so no tax paid in the UK or NI. Some local tradespeople have gone out of business because of the migrant workers undercutting the price they have to charge to earn a living and PAY TAX etc.
A situation that must come to a bad end, sooner or later. The influx in numbers of people IN the UK must contribute to the governments build build build housing policy.
There are THOUSANDS of perfectly soundly constructed housing that is being bulldozed to make way for the new build on green field sites.
I despair. |

Spot on Pat. What also infuriates me even more with this over-housebuilding debacle is that there is a lot of new housing nationwide which is being built on floodplains. Now I don't claim to be Einstein, far from it, but housing on floodplains - am I missing something so bloody obvious I can't see it ? How are these people going to get house insurance for these homes cos they sure as hell ain't after the first time their house gets flooded and in view of the weird weather of the past couple of years, it's only a matter of time. So who takes the blame for that one ? Which overpaid Napoleonic halfwit thought that was a good idea then. Don't suppose we'll see any hands shooting into the air taking the rap. Oh no, it'll be a case of reverse buck passing - it stinks. As usual, it will be the unsuspecting Joe Public who will be left to pick up the soggy remnants of their home.
Ooooh sorry, rant over. |

Lucky you to have the deers Kirsty, BUT...
I have to agree about economic migrants, though many claim we need them to do the jobs Brits don't want to (picking vegetables, looking after old people in care homes etc...).
In the town I live and work, there are now NO jobs for young people or students to get; all are taken by eastern Europeans. Polish are now, in the space of five years, the biggest ethnic minority in our town - 10 per cent are Poles in a town of 50,000. That's a huge invasion by any standards.
Sorry to be blunt (and I know this from my work as a local journalist) but Asian landlords are packing them in to houses-of-multiple-occupation where they are living in huge numbers and sharing rooms on a 'shift work' basis (one landlord has been in court for refusing to provide their basic rights as tenants) and I have it on authority that the local social services department is giving them cash (well cheques) to buy cars to get to their labouring/fruit picking work.
As for housing, like most places we have thousands of 'townhouse' houses in the pipeline in developments to satisfy the Government's wish to fill its housing quota. But right now, the housing market is imploding; people are taking their homes off the market because they are not selling even with almost a fifth of their value discounted.
What a state!! |

Are there enough of us to form a government? If there are then what's stopping us? We know we could do it. Merlot for PM , Vera for Home secretary, Pixie law and order, Come on get your names down for the jobs you think you'd be good at and lets get cracking. After all there is no way we could do a worse job than the current shower of tossers!! |

There's only one thing wrong with this idea Suelin - I'd have to resign from the good ship Ray as First Sea Lordy/Lady. Tough call. Not sure whether I'd want to be PM - it's a bit like worms - nobody loves you, everybody hates you............ |

It's a deal. Treasurer it is, will get me abacus out ready just in case I run out of fingers and toes. If you need help in the Punishment Department, I have some ideas - none of them legal but who cares. |

I'm going to be in charge of manning the AK47 posts at all ports airports etc and mowing down all illegals and otherwise who won't work and who think they can change our society to theirs. Machine gun emplacements need to be placed at all equestrian premises to mow down thieving pikeys. Gunners won't need much training, just a passion for the job. How's that? |
