Hi All,
Please use the link below to watch the film 'Earthlings'. For anyone who watches 'Earthlings' the world will never be the same and that was definately the case for me. Its not easy to watch but its important that we know whats going on. That way we can do the most simple thing to help animals, dont fund those who make money out of exploiting animals, dont give them your money! www.youtube.com/watch?v=odee3Jqzf50 www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ls6NCEsVVY Cheers, Michelle

Everyone who claims to love animals should watch "Earthlings". You have to be informed to help them. Thanks for posting Ghaleem. |

I don't have time to watch this properly now, but what I have seen is very upsetting. I must say though, what it shows of farms and slaughterhouses is what must happen in some places, but certainly in my experience of farms and abbatoirs it is far more humane than that. At all slaughterhouses in the UK there is a resident vet who oversees slaughter and checks the animals before slaughter. I have also never seen a dairy cow die of exhaustion. I think when watching these types of documentary you must bear in mind it is propoganda and must be taken as that.
Must say just noticed it is an American film, so I am not sure of slaughterhouse procedure there etc. Feel I should also add I am a vegetarian, but mainly I disagree with farming methods, and not killing animals for human consumption as I believe we were designed to eat meat, sadly in the modern world we live far from naturally and so do the animals bred for consumption :(
Sorry if that made little sense my brain has switched off for the day! |

Very Unfortunatly, I am aware of these 'goings on/atrocity,s.' Other examples of 'man'!!!! deciding what is, they see, as their, 'Right' to inflict on the weaker species, wether it be old, infirm, young, or animals.
Its a cruel, cruel, and mad world we live in.

Before I view, can I ask if there are any slaughter scenes. I find it very disturbing seeing an animal being killed. |

Its worse than that Jilly. It would have been better if some of those poor creatures had been slaughtered, in my opinion, the end would have been quicker for them then.
If you are vulnerable, dont look, if you are strong, its up to you Lass. XX
I have to though, I need to know to stand my corner.
You take care, Night, night Jilly. |

I'm sorry but I can't watch. I used to watch these things but it saddens me so much and haunts me. I can't describe how frustrated and helpless it makes me feel. There are a small minority of us who care about the other life we share this planet with but there are just so many who do not care.
My grandparents were farmers and I used to love helping them feed the cows. For a while I could never understand why my gran would cry each time the lorry came to take them away. When I found out what happened to the cows I became a vegetarian, I was about 7 or 8.
How do you change the minds of people who do not believe that animals have feelings? All they are concerned about is getting their food the cheapest way they can, they do not want to trouble themselves with what happens to make it so cheap. They have never stroked a cows nose and seen their different 'personalities'. They do not think a cow feels fear and pain just like we do. Human greed is a destructive force and it seems unstoppable Look at what humans are capable of doing to other humans - what chance do animals have? |

OK, I have viewed part of part 1, and part od part 2. Are we aware of what goes on?, Yes. Do we need to see it? optional.
I personally am just as horrified at carcasses hung up in a butchers, I find it extremely offensive, not only the sight, but the smell of a butchers has me retching. And the thought of these poor creatures as they approach the abattoir, they must smell death awaiting them.
So, I did not watch the whole thing, I find it far too upsetting. Meat eating is a way of life, the fact that it upsets me will not stop it, anymore than watching these vids will stop this horrific cruelty.
Thank you Pat for your reply, at least I knew what I was opening and was ready to switch off the minute it got to me.
why why why why why??????????? And how do these people sleep at night?

GREAT !!! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IT !!! THATS WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR!!!
Im not going to argue with anyone i just want to put the information on here for people to see and then they can make up their own minds.
I used to be the kind of person who couldnt watch these images, but i'm so glad i did. I opened my eyes, then i trusted what i knew was right in my heart and now i do everything i can to help animals (and people by the way)
Funny thing is i used to dream of my fields being filled with beautiful, well bred arabians. Now i dream of them filled with beautiful rescued farm animals. |

My husband and I are vegetarians and are very careful to check the content of any foodstuff to check for by products and also use products that have not been tested on animals etc etc.
It is a real eye opener when going food shopping to see what people put in their trolleys. Some people are just not interested to know where their food comes from let alone how the poor animal existed before it's "humane?" end. Even if they are not thinking of the animals, you would think that they would be concerned about the quality of food that they are eating.
Living in Suffolk, I see these ghastly crated lorries crammed with chickens, day in day out. In all weathers they are transported, most without tarpaulin protecting them. They then get off loaded, hung upside down, zapped and (if they are lucky to be dead by this point) they then have their throats cut. Prior to this journey the majority of the chickens are living in an indoor shed in extremely cramped conditions from day old chicks to about 6/7 weeks old. Then they are ready for the table.
When I lived in Essex, I kept my horses on a farm where the farmer had beef cattle that were destined for Tesco's. These cows were penned up for the best part of the year and knee deep in their own crap. THIS was approved by Tesco's as local produce living a natural life!
I accept that Cows, pigs, sheep etc are going to be eaten but I do feel that the "eaters" should be more knowledgeable about the conditions in which they are kept and slaughtered. After all, if everybody ate free range and boycotted intensive farming then it would be a good start for improving the animal's lives.

Kirsty maybe you don't have to see to believe, but how can you believe and still buy into that system? Part of you is still turning away from the horror of it, and denying it to yourself, or you would never want to eat another animal again.
It is painful to watch stuff like that, but unless the people who really care about the animals inform themselves enough to argue for them nothing will change. The animals don't have a voice of their own. |

I have just watched some of the first video. I couldn't watch it any longer after a cow was turned upside down in a machine then pushed out still alive after having it's gullet ripped open, it was absolutely heartbreaking to see what those animals have to go through. I cried most way through it, it made me feel sick. It's absolutely awful. Sick and cruel |

I've watched too many of these in the past and become too upset to go there again so I won't be watching BUT I AM GLAD THIS HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS SORT OF THING.
Many years ago now, I watched a film about pigs....and the result is I do not eat pork unless it is local and I know where and how it was bred, raised and that it was slaughtered locally.
There was quite a lot of watching uncomfortable footage after that.....just to be informed....
I will not eat chickens or egg containing food if I am out unless I know the restaurant has a policy on eggs and chickens and the free range issue.....although there is STILL an issue with me about the manner of slaughtering fowls.
I also have a problem with dairy products from unkown sources as I worked in the dairy industry for a while befoe I HAD to leave over some welfare concerns.
I usally eat fish when I'm out or go veggie and the amount of meat in the house has declined and declined as it's been hard to obtain organically raised, humanely kept and acceptably ( well, as acceptable as it can be ) slaughtered meat at times here.
As a life long carnivore who spent a whole year feeling very under par as a veggie despite trying to carefully balance the optimum foodstuffs, it has been hard to give up meat even in part....but it's hard to eat it knowing what I know and having seen what I HAVE seen before.
Furthermore, there is the whole ecology of raising meat on a crowded planet when vegetable food stuffs require so much less land and input.
No I'm not a total veggie....yet.....although many people think from my avoidance of so much, that I am. I could definitely live on fish....but then I don't like the way even THOSE are treated either, suffocating to death on the decks of boats.....looks like my fridge will soon contain little but soya.....although how the heck do you make sure for certain it's not been GM'd ?
You are what you eat, they say......NOW eat a battery chicken or a crate reared pig is what I'd love to say to all those munching thoughtlessly on their Kentucky Fried snacks and bacon baps. |

Wyllow, glad to hear you are an ethical shopper Im vegan because the trouble, even with organic milk, is that the calf is still stolen from the mother so that we can drink her milk. The egg laying free range hens may have extra space but their brothers are still killed as soon as they hatch as they are usless. And of course all of these animals end up at the slaughter house. I remember you have chickens of your own, which is the best way to ensure they have a good life. I am thinking of having some ex battery hens so that i can give the eggs to my neighbours so that they dont buy battery eggs. May need to pick your brain if i do
