One of our cats, Mona, came back about 10 days ago and wwnt staright under the bed to hide, stopped eating and drinking and lost loads of weight in just a couple of days. I gave her little drinks by force and expected her to die, thats how poorly she looked, I thought if I take her to the vets he'll never let me bring her home, anyway, after a couple of days, she was no better and getting thinner by the hour, and I decided to force feed her, the only option. After another two days, of milk & water & mushed up sardines & fish, my son came home with a Mc Donalds, she took one smell and asked for a bit, I forced abit more down & the same for breakfast the next day, while cooking a stew she came in the kitchen and asked for a bit of meat, gobbled up about a teaspoon full. Cutting a long story shor, I think keeping her fed & watered, keept her going and she's now eating every thing in sight, 5 meals aday, fish, meat, sardines, chicken & just a bit of cat food as well... looks as if Mona will live for a bit longer...

Well done. ( hey ! approved smiley is back!!) We used to do this when I worked in a Veterinary Hospital as when cats had been involved in a trauma/road accident they were shocked and would not eat, some times they would have to have their broken jaws wired and then they would refuse to eat....cos it hurt! But warm, mashed sardines worked well most times. It was awful having to force them to eat but it saved their lives. |

Oh well done, just shows that with you trying to force feed, she gradually got her taste buds interested in food again, I do hope she continues to progress. Any idea where she had been for 10 days? Nicky |

Only stuff mine will eat when poorly is those Shippam's pastes - contain about 60%-70% chicken, beef or whatever, I swear by them... |

When my dog had her 2nd stroke a couple of months back we had trouble getting her to eat, she just turned her nose up at everything and we were beginning to despair until she wobbled her way into the kitchen when I had made chicken casserole I usually make double and freeze some for when we're busy, ended up sitting on the floor feeding it to her from my hands as she couldn't hold her head at the correct angle to eat it, she made a hell of a mess and I ended up covered in gravy, but it got her eating again |

glad there was a good outcome but i have to say if she were mine i would have taken her to the vet. being on a drip for a few hours can bring a cat back to life sometimes, and i would have wanted to have her checked over for possible trauma etc. vets (or my vet anyway)don't euthenase animals unless absolutely necessary, and they could have given you hills a.d. diet which is brill for syringe feeding at home. |

Thanks Everyone, Mona(moan a lot) seems back on form, I think she must have got hold of something that did'nt suit her..and maybe she was locked in somewhere, she's now very vocal and back on form, her belly is starting to stick out each side and she'd realy enjoying her varied diet, I started to feed her on the dining table, away from the other cats ( got another four), anyway I was cooking her some cod, when it had finished cooking I put a small portion to cool and them went to see where she was, you guessed it, she was sat on the dining table already waiting for her food.. I bought up all the out of date fish yesterday in sainsburys and they had makrel for tea yesterday..... Thanks again folks she seems almost as good as new....and is driving us all mad again with her constant moaning, half simese and always going on and on. If we get vistors she talks them to death, they always wont to take her home.....Sue
