Hi all, I know its not about horses, but its something I have been meaning to do for ages but I really must get my 3 working Cocker Spaniels insured. Can anyone recommend a good one please? I wont touch Pet plan as had a rough time with an old horse. Thanks so much. Leighxx

Try DBI-- Dog Breeders Insurance. they used to only insure breeders but I think they do a multi pet policy. you can google them....or NFU they are very good. |

Hi Leigh,
My American Cocker Spaniel is insured with Pet Plan and they have been absolutely fine. Unfortunately she suffers from Atopic Dermatitis and will probably needs meds for this for the rest of her life including medicated shampoo and food supplements. All to the tune of about £100 a month and she has a lifetime policy(thank goodness)
I totally understand how you feel if you have had a bad experience but they have been very good with Coco.

I use Sainsbury's - quick to settle and lifetime cover. We phoned for cover on the Saturday we got our rescue BT and she had a bad accident on the Sunday resulting in over £4K vets bills they hadn't even received the premium but still paid out in full - can't fault them and we don't get loads of 'offer' stuff either. |

Not pet plan. When I bought my maine coon kitten,he came with a pet plan policy, then he had problems with his tear ducts and my vet completed a claim form on our behalf, but they said we took out insurance after the illness had started! Apparently this is quite common, now I only have the horses insured and I have just paid out for an operation for my dog Molly, which cost £475.Molly is 6 years old and I have never had to pay vets bills for her before and my old dog is 21 years old and I have only had to pay out around £80 for her when she broke her leg,so I wonder if it's really worth it |

The 4K we were covered for was for a broken leg - it was badly broken and had to have pieces sawn off the ends of the bones. My mother has just had a bill for her border terrier who had to have spinal surgery for an unknown birth defect that cost £150 per night at the vet hospital. You will also have third party insurance. I always recomend that people have some cover it could prevent you having to make a horid decision based on your finances. |

I wouldnt touch Petplan with a barge pole. Many years ago they haggled and argued about paying out for a mare I had that died. They wanted full medical records and quibbled that she had had flu 5 years previously.............she died in an ACCIDENT!!! They were rude and unhelpful and caused me even more distress. |

My dogs were insured with M&S but they have gone expensive this year so i went with sainsburys...i used to be insured with pet plan but the prices are something to be believed when you have multiple dogs. |

WOW! Thank you all so much!! I used to insure my horse with Dog breeders but they were taken over by Petplan and my premiums shot up, plus having had a bad experience with them I cancelled the policy. I got a quote from Tesco for all three of mine and that was £34 something a month, but will try Sainsburys and sorry to be thick but I take it that M&S is Marks and Spencers? Thanks again. Leighxx |

Tesco Dog insurance is very good, and when you make a claim they are very fast and efficient. Nicky |
