I decided, as my gardener couldnt work outside today that we would tackle the loft, a huge undertaking and as I write I can hear him cussing and blinding I thought I'd have a break and see whats going on in the Aline world, all calm again I think what I have found up there though is a wealth ( if you can call it that )of old Photos, which I intend to copy into my PC and then put on a disc to save for future family generations. I could seriously furnish another house with whats up there, so if my OH throws me out I can furnish my stables and live there

Oooh who are the photos of Lynda?
Eeek I think we have mice in our attic... we were woken up the other night by some rustling noises coming from above I think we're going to have to get some traps this weekend... I already feel terribly guilty
Apart from them, we've tried to keep the attic fairly clutter free as we're considering converting it into a lovely big bedroom (the beams in there are to die for) |

Talking of lofts - we have just had to clear out the loft at our old "home" as we are going to rent it out - talk about lots and lots of junk! We have only been there 4 and half years too! - I think we had 7 trips in the transit van to get rid of the stuff....
I am going to have to be ruthless now as we only have a really low loft in this house - a garage and spare barn are already now full!!!
Sadly, I didnt find any treasures.. apart from some nice photos.
Is everyone like me - darent throw anything away "just in case"???

Ahh how lovely - all those memories to revisit
No loft for us but an understairs cupboard that is def on the "to do" list! I started it last weekend but the first thing that I saw in there was my daughters old nursery school work file. sat down and started looking through, an hour and a half later that is as far as I got.
Box of tissues, glass of wine and countless ohhs and ahhs later that was it - box back in the cupboard - job not done! All those little trinkets, pottery hand prints, matchstick men pictures, cotton wool sheep and glitter Christmas stars. She's only eight but it seemed so long ago.

lol - I just had a silly thought, wouldn't it be funny to have to don the first old outfit you find up there whilst doing the job. I can just imagine your gardener and hubby in their grow bags (flight suits) and you in a lovely mini throw back from the 60's.
Should be compulsary I reckon for all loft clearing |

Well first of i had to laugh when i saw this thread my eldest son does insulation walls and LOFTS!!!! and the stories he comes home with are unbelievable!!! although they should be cleared for work to commence!!!!unless they are paying extra for them to be cleared as well. Mine we have cleared funnily enough this week as weve had our bedroom desighned and refitted right down to new everything and large flat screen tvso rather than throw out the old including an 8ft sleigh bed we have packed the loft with more than ever as i know now i can kit one of the kids out eventually when they move out!!!! We put everything in the loft now when we upgrade right down to kitchen knives!!! airers wardrobes bedding curtains coffee tables also i have kept all the kids duplo lego tecnic... the brio trains and tracks all the good books eg. rupert the original golly wog full set,meg and mog!!!Beatrice Potter set, etc etc, the action men tanks ... Barbies horses and carriages houses caravans and all her cars, Joke is are loft is only under 4 ft high as its a chalet bungalow but its all in!!!!! My husband did this week bring a bag of 3 and 4 inch stilletoe boots down all expensive designer ones that i cant even zip up let alone proberly walk in!!! so my daughter has rumadge through and what shes not having am giving to my neice who will be in her element. Oh we still have the childrens huge beautifull handmade rocking horse and tack!!!! and my old wooden doll high chair and dolls house I think all we did throw out at the tip today was a computor and a key board and old xmas decorations i felt were a bit scruffy. I think i must be a hoarder!!!!! |

My OH is chairman of Hoarders Annon. The stuff he has in the attic SOOOOmany old cameras, boxes and boxes of photos...books from school things that "may come in handy one day". On top of all this I became Power of Attorney for an old lady, and had to store her worldly pocessions ....and I am slowly selling them all off. One thing I found was a box full of packets of Kitson and Dawlish Seamed stockings...I sold them on Ebay for £10 -£15 each! I am trying to forget the emails from some odd creatures who asked " have they been worn, if not ....could they be " anyway I am slowly selling of the "Royal Memorabellia ".... old lace....Very old books...brown ( yes brown) drinking classes...so much 1970 kitch ! |

Heaven knows what is in ours, never been in it. No plans to either, I might get bitten. A few squirrels and possibly even a raccoon or two for sure. They have parties up there and I'm pretty sure they run a bowling alley too judging from the noise some nights!
No history tucked away in ours......now the horse barn, that still has stalls full of junk, I can see what looks like a very clean Aga type range in the unplumbed depths of one of them. |

I'm not allowed in loft - I tend to get carried away looking through everything and I don't come down for hours!!!
I love going in my parents loft though! Lots of things from when we were all kids!! and all my old records!!! |

Well I kow for a fact that I have nothing in my loft but then that's because I don't have one. I have one of my stables in the barn full of stuff though. I had someone e-mail me wnating to know if I had any pictures of Silver Auriole. I knew I had some so I had to climb over all the stuff in there to get to back where I knew the old photos were. Battle past the spiders ( Black Widows! not very nice spiders) but I found them and e-mailed them off to her.

Horse rugs, horse rugs and more rugs!
You see you rhorse grows a bit so you have to update their wardrobe but you had better not throw out the small ones just incase you get another horse. then you do get that other horse and yes you do use some of the rugs but invariably this new horse seems to grow at a different rate to the first so you have to buy more to accomodate them and so on and so on.....
(PS- local tack shop had sale today- guess what i got?? More rugs!!) |
