Can anyone help me? 3 years ago I bought my second Arabian gelding called Dominik I got him from a lady in Blackwood Gwent this lady (Bev Thomas) had him for 3 years and was unable to obtain papers for him. She told me that someone in or near Cardiff had bred him. Dominik is supposed to be Egyptian bred and is 14.2hh and grey fairly fine built and was more of a roany grey years ago with a few fleabitten marks on his face, he is now nearly pure white and will be 13 years old next year. He has quite extravagant action and is very typey. Both me and his old owner would love to know his breeding, if anyone thinks they know this horse. Are there any Arab breeders or studs around Cardiff that we could try?

That would be amazing. We'd love to know how he's bred it's a shame he is not registered. Thanks for anything you can find, he's the 2nd one in my sig', he's lovely (most of the time)!!! He was born in '95 so will be 13 next year, not sure his old owner would know the name of the people who sold him. Thanks for any help, much appreciated xxxx |

Steve Eddings is an arab breeder in Cardiff. He has two stallions, Magical and Zareryn. Celia Saunders (who posts on here) has a gelding by Zareryn and he doesnt look unlike your boy...
There was another breeder in Penarth (well he was more of a dealer really, but had an arab stallion and occasionally bred arabs). His name was Hassan Fettah. I bought some horses from him around 16 years ago. He was in his eighties then and I understand he went home to Egypt a few years after this to spend his final years. If your boy is thirteen its not impossible that he bred him before going home.
Anyway good luck in your search!

Okay Bev sent me an email, and this is what she says:
I bought Dom from a woman called Nerys, from a small village just outside of Llantrisant near Cardiff called Efail Isaf. She had been his second owner, previous to that a local guy had bought him for his young son who must have been none too impressed wityh this lovely little colt (Idiot!!!). The information that I had as to his breeding was that he was from really good Egyptian lines, as you say there is no doubt that he is Egyptian (handsome boy!). I have rembered a little more as to the location of the breeder:it is not actually Cardiff, its a place called Marshfield situated on the outskirts of Newport & Cardiff. As I said to you I did actually once get as far as getting a phone number for this place from a girl who I knew briefly @ the yard, although no idea where she is now? When I rang they fobbed me off with saying that the farm was under renovation and they had mislaid their breeding records for the time being, they never got back to me and I gave up. I was told that the farm was a bit of a mess, although their horses were good. Sounded about right. Feel that the name of the farm might have been 'Church Farm',or was it just 'Church Lane??' Can anyone help at all???? Anyone think they know this place? |

Yes Steve Eddins is that way, Sluice Farm. Dont know if you know Cardiff well, but if you take the coast road from Cardiff to Newport (through Marshfield) his farm in on the left. I dont have a number, but I have the email address for Patrick who shows his horses for him: Patricksheehy2004@yahoo.com I am sure he wont mind me giving you his email - he is a member here, perhaps he could give you Steve's number. As mentioned above, Steve's stallions are Magical and Zareryn. I used to own a gelding by Magical, and Celia Saunders owns a grey gelding by Zareryn. My gelding wasnt registered either (and I am not sure if Celia's is).
Zareryn's pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/zareryn
(Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can give you the Egyptian percentage!)
And here is a picture of him:
I cant say I have heard of Church Farm, the only riding school down that way is Springfield Farm. I work for Swalec so can do a search of all the farms down there so will take a look for Church Farm tomorrow.
Good luck. Its always nice to find the history of horses! Kate

I have just done a quick search on a website we use at work, that holds all the addresses in UK (and the serial numbers on their electric meters!)
There is a Church Farm and a Common Farm under the same postcode as Sluice Farm (Steve Eddins). It could be possible that even if Steve didnt breed him, his neighbour did using one of his stallions.
Let me know if you need any further info...

Hi Danielle
Kate has directed me to this topic as she thought I might be able to help. I see Church Farm is mentioned and I know that belongs to the Ballinger family (and I am not sure they were ever into breeding arabians) whom I believe grow crops, cabbages and other veg.
I do not know your horse but I am sure if you could talk to Steve Eddins he would probably be able to shed more light on the subject. My gelding is also 13 next year and he is a flea bitten grey now getting very spotty. He was quite dark dappled grey when he was younger. He is also not registered even though his sire (Zareryn) and dam (Iania Dawn) are registered arabs, the breeder never registered the dam as breeding stock, and it would have cost me a considerable sum to get my horse registered not to mention getting permission to blood type the mare etc.etc.
Here is a pic of Salty taken in 2004 showing the last bits of his dappleness. If you want to give me your pm I can send you some more pictures. He had an accident when he was a few days old (trampled by other horses) and had a large lump where his 'dish' is. As he grew up the injury became less noticeable and all that is left is a slight bump which spoils his profile but does not bother him. I'll ponder some more and see what comes up.

According to BT, Steve Eddins phone number is 02920 777079. Not sure if this is still the case.
Let us know how you get on.
