I have just been looking through the sales pages, and came across a nice mare called Splodge. No offence if she is yours, but I had to have a little giggle, thinking of standing in a field shouting SPLODGE.. So what strange names do other horses have I have a little mare called Peek-a-boo and a mare I sold I called Plank Head, usually due to the fact she left her brains in the stable.

What an interesting thread!!!
I had a mare on loan for about 7 years from a friend of mine and her name was Misti. She could be a real bossy cow at times with the other horses and she ended up with the title Misti Moo!!!! Moo as she is mostly refered to now, is a stunning mare and I had a giggle to myself there as I remembered how she came about the ungainly title!!
My current two boys usually get referred to as Dumb and Dumber, as neither of them seem to have any fear and will wade in to assist you in all sorts of things that horses really should stay well out of! |

My friend has a mare called Misty and she is the matriarch of our little herd of three. She is also called Misty Moo!
My boy is called Ziggy, but he has funny moments of staring into space with his head tilted as if having some kind of genius moment and hence somehow he has earned the nickname Zigmund Freud! |

When I worked at UmmQarn, we had a good laugh naming some of the foals. The worst must have been Swampy!! A beautiful bay filly by Kuvey Bay out of Marsinique - always a giggle valling that out!!
My own beasties were Badger (born chocolate with a silver tail), Peri - nothing interesting there, and Twinkle - a rather butch newforest!!
I looked after a horse who was called B'stard - thats his registered name too - raised a fair few eyebrows!! |

Years ago someone nicknamed my horse Beckham as he had (and still has) a long flaxen mane with blonde highlights which David Beckham was sporting at the time! I think he refers to me as "Oi you"!
A friend has the most beautiful purebred colt whose stablename is Monkey, and a sweeter, less sneaky monkey-like creature you couldn't find. |

Spools gets called 'Pooter' or 'donk', so when i go to get him and Dinky in from the field - I call for Dink and Donk
Although Dinky also gets called miss piggy because when she comes up in the evening she makes this funny little grunting noise and sounds like a pig - she is actually waffling about the fact that she is gonna get her dinner!! |

I bred a lovely colt a couple of years ago, he was named LB. I'm sure you can imagine what that stood for. Little Bugger when he was relatively naughty and Little **** when he was really naughty. He was such an independant foal, ran his poor mother ragged.

We used to have a Misty, also called Misty moo when she was being an old bag!
Mishi is called pickle bum.(Don't ask me why? I have no idea either, I just came out with it one day and it stuck - perhaps I was hungry at the time ) He is so well behaved, no horrid names for him
Minuette is called Minny moo, when she is on one
Jessie is called thicko, bless her she doesn't have alot of sense. Everything revolves around food for her. Typical greedy pony |

I call mine donkey chops, when I used to show him he would stand like a donkey head drooped and ears out to the side falling asleep, so we stopped showing, but he now stands over his stable door like it |

The girls that help out call my mare barry, because she's quiet and rather boring. My other mare is Charlotte the harlet. I used to ride a 3/4 TB x 1/4 shire, but she looked like a shire and was 17hh called Pixie. |

I have a Milly. Named as she was so cheeky. Her reg. name came from this as Tamila. Rimarli is Little Rim as his fathewr and grandfather were Old Rim and Big Rim. He still ****** his ears and whinnies when I call Little Rim in a high pitch. I think he sees his bottle of milk. He is an orphan. The irony of this is that my Rim is the tallest of them all. Ramak was called Nonsense. I have no idea why but it suited him somehow and his dad was Fungus as he was born with a fantastic beard and my OH called him that. |
