Anyone with the Old Hunter Improvement & Light horse stud books for Mares born in 1942. We are trying to locate/trace SYLVIA VI. registered hunter HSB.10592. She was the dam of Mr Sun Tan & Roundhills Golden Finale both Palomino's, anyone know anything about her or her owners from those days....Thank You.. Sue

If no one has got a copy you could try contacting Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain and seeing what information that they are allowed to give you. Tel - 01732 866277. It might be nothing but surely worth a try if nothing else turns up. Also keep an eye out on ebay as i've seen some old Hunter Improvement/Light Horse Stud Books coming up for sale on there for not a horrendous price. Sorry not to be more helpful. |

Sport Horse Breeding & Hunter Improvement Society/Light Horse Breeding Society are one and the same organisation that has changed its name as they have deemed their place in the horse industry has changed. Sport Horse Breedings headed paper informs you that they were founded in 1886 as H.I.S. If it helps put things into order for you the link below is for their website listing the organisations history.

Hope they can help & good luck. |

Re: Roundhills Golden Finale I've corrected his breeding on sire side on allbreed pedigree as he had the wrong Monument listed (the Hanoverian). Fleche Bleu was also a thoroughbred HIS premium stallion. |

Melynda, Is that the same Sylvia? You've written Sylvia VI, not IV? |

In the stud book she is named SYLVIA VI the registration number is the same 10592 so I would strongly believe it is the same horse. Also Mr Sun Tan is by the same HIS stallion Mayfair III so Sylvia VI had an offspring for 1955 (colt, chestnut) and then Mr Sun Tan in 1956 (colt, palomino)both by Mayfair III. Allbred says Sylvia IV/Sylvia52 but I think it should be Sylvia VI unless HIS Stud book got a printing error. |

Brill job Melynda, Thanks very much for your help, I did try to ring Sports Horse this week but the girl they gave me was away on hos till next week..you've beaten them to it, we'd only got the two off springs, so now we know there were three. has anyone got a name for the third.. I guess both Flech Bleu & Mayfair we stationed in Leicestershire or near as HIS stallions, I remember the scheme well, will now try and trace the owner of Sylvia VI and do the previous search with the Irish Horse Board etc. just in case she's there as VI. We were trying to find out a little more about her breeding, just in case anything else comes to mind/light...Great Work Thanks a lot.. If we get a name for the third foal we can enter it on all breeds... Sue |

Both Mayfair III and Fleche Bleu were owned by J. H. Wheatley, Forge Stud, Twycross, Atherstone, Warwickshire. Mayfair III travelled to Leicestershire, Fleche Bleu to Essex, Leicetershire and Staffordshire. Mayfair III 1950 - 12 mares - 3 foals 1951 no figures in stud book 1952 - 78 mares - 55 foals 1953 - 64 mares - 42 foals 1954 - 5 mares - 5 foals then sustituted for Noble Manna 1955 - no figures in book 1956 - no figures in book 1957 - 58 mares - 31 foals 1958/59 no more figures in book Fleche Bleu 1959 - 84 mares - 43 foals (Essex) 1960 - 95 mares - 64 foals (Leics.) 1961 - 108 mares - 63 foals (Leics.) 1962 - 83 mares - 43 foals (Leics.) 1963 - 79 mares - 52 foals (Staffs.) Have only got the books up to 1963 (any newer books would be gladly bought. Fleche Bleue died March 1970. As Mayfair has not got any stud records for 1955 I am wondering if the chestnut colt of 1955 could be Mr Sun Tan??? or perhaps he could just have been used privately in 1955. There are no breed details for Sylvia VI.
Happy to have been able to help you. Love looking through old stud books.
