I have a really nice coloured filly with very even markings and excellent conformation, i have just been offered £1900 for her with a £200 deposit and turned it down as i dont really like the sound of the person, they seem a bit dealerish if you know what i mean, they dont like colts and have sold horses in appleby etc. Would anyone lse have done the same thing?

I think i would do the same, if i got offered a good amount for a horse, but didn't feel the person offering to buy was going to be the right owner, i would turn it down also. If i did accpet the offer, with the person i didn't feel comfortable with, just for the money, then i know i would worry about the horse, if you get what i mean?!

yes thats what i thought, i would worry about her all the time and this girl sounded clueless. She said her stallion is really skinny, so that put me off straight away! I said i will go and look at her place before i decide but i know what im going to find. They also have 15 horses that rings alarm bells. i am willing to sell her for £1500 to a girl over the road from me as that would be a fab home but she cant convince her dad to buy her |

IMHO you would have been mad to accept! I personally wouldn't take any amount of money if I wasn't happy with the home. I would rather give a horse away to an excellent home than sell to a bad one. |

i would def no the same, we have the responsibility to make sure our horses go to suitable owners (to the best of our ability)... we owe it to them... |

Any one that breeds any animal has the duty to find it the best home possible. If you are not sure about these people then dont sell her to them. What about very a short term loan for the other person with a view to buying if done properly at least you would have the knowledge that you did your best for your filly. I hope that it turns out well for you Sue

Go with your gut feeling everytime!! You have every right to turn ANYONE down! I think you have made the best choice, but dont always go on a first sight! I have been out to some scruffy places and the horses are very well cared for, yet on the other hand I have been to some very neat and 'posh' places and the horses are either miserable or NOT properly cared for. Hope you find someone ideal. Lx |

When you are dealing with an animal's future ( ANY animal ) you must trust your instincts, or you will not sleep at night. Well done for not selling her,.....if it doesn,t feel right ...DON'T DO IT. Thr right home will be out there ......Polly |

You are absolutely right not to sell to anyone you are not happy about; it is not like selling a pound of sausages where it doesn't matter where they end up.
I refused to sell my stallion to someone who wanted him; they sounded really nice but couldn't be bothered to come and see him as it was "too far". He was only five and I found a lovely home for him near here and he went as a gelding for no money as the person couldn't afford to pay at the time. It was agreed that she would pay when she could afford to and as my farrier knew her as well as other people I knew I was happy that she was a genuine person.
Everyone told me I was mad but that was the arrangement and he has since been paid for in full and both he and his new owner are really happy; it couldn't have worked out better. Do what your instincts tell you.

I was going to take a look at their place and decide then but now i am sure that they are not going to have her as i dont like the type of people who sell horses in appleby, its just like a sale room but outside! Also she siad she wants to put her in a cart and that too put me right off, no offence to people who drive their horses but alot of dealer types do it. They have their own sec d stallion who they said was skinny and joked about it and thy would probably put my filly in foal at 2 years old so they are not having heri will let her go for 1500 to a girl over the road from me if she can persuade her dad to buy her |

No Moldequine, you're great worrying about your horse's welfare. It's great coming on this website and finding people who care about their horse and not about money. |
