Hi, I have a partbred arab whose grandfather was Bon Ami Khalleeb (Mr Sun Tan x Penhill Spanish Fiesta). When I was researching her pedigree I phoned the British Sports Horse Society & asked about Mr Sun Tan's breeding, they told me that Sylvia IV was registered in the Hunter Stud Book but was of unknown origin, born in 1946 (no colour mentioned, etc) she basically won through competition a premium to visit a premium stallion, who was Mayfair III, a Thoroughbred, to produce Mr Sun Tan. If you find out anymore about Sylvia please let me know.
Thanks,
Claire. |

Hi Clare. Thanks for your info, we think Mayfair was a Hunter Improvement Stallion, and I've done the Irish Horse Board search but found nothing for Sylvia IV yet. Can you tell me was it the British organisation you contacted and the year please. Sue

Hi have searched through scraps of paper I kept with names etc on, & I actually spoke to Sport Horse Breeding UK on 01732 866277, possibly to a lady called Kim (I'm not positive)? From memory, I had to phone her back as she looked through old magasines as she remembered seeing an article with Mr Sun Tans details in it. She told me that Mayfair 3 was a Thoroughbred & that Sylvia was of unknown breeding her HSB number is HSB 10592 - I didn't note a colour so assuming she didn't know. I spoke to her the begining of this year. Please let me know if you find out anything else.

I think it must be the old Hunter Improvment scheme. will try to have a word with her. The only other foal that was on allbreeds out of Sylvia IV, was Roundhills Golden Finale, another Palomino, this time by Fleche Bleu another TB & Mayfair are both on the Thoroughbred on line register and I thought they might give us a lead to where she came from, using two TB's and producing two palomino. I also did an on line search with the Irish Horse Board for this mare. I was hoping to trace her owner wondering if it was another Palomino breeder, wonder if there is a list from 1940ies of all Palomino breeder..Thanks for you lead...will keep you posted. Sue
Sometime at the Horse Live Event, the Sports Horse & Irish D, have the stud books to hand, I thought I might try to take a look there in November. |

Look at the postings about Sylvia, she was grey and the owners name has come to light, 1942 for her year of birth & she produced another foal...she is recorded as IV, not VI, and Mr Sun-Tan might have a dash in his name, anyone confirm this, in the old PBA register he has a dash... as Mr Sun-Tan. This is sylvia as follows:- SYLVIA VI, 1942, Grey Mare, 14.3h. HSB 10592.(Old Hunter Improvement Scheme. |
