I am totally happy with the suggested 80% refund. Anyone who is not can always request the full amount. But to do so would be very short-sighted and not in the best interests of the society. There are many expenses that are not recoverable, postage for one would claim a fairly hefty budget as an example, telephone calls another. How many calls had to made just to make sure everyone knew for certain the show was off, and many of those calls would be to mobiles, as mine was.
On the other side of the coin are the people who are keeping strangely silent who are eligible for a refund but who already knew that their horses although entered, would not be at the show. I've never counted, but horses entered who don't appear on the day must make up at least 10per cent of the total and in a normal year they would not have been eligible for ANY refund.
As for insuring for this sort of freak of nature, I personally think it would be a waste of money. Can anyone remember this happening before? I have been attending the show since it was held at Peterborough in the early seventies so thats at least 35 years with no similar occurence.
At the end of the day, as others have said, it is just a show, albeit a very important show to us, but in the greater scheme of things it really doesn't matter that much compared to what some people have suffered.
Now, lets all forget what can't be changed and look forward to a great show next year.
