Well my o/h from a farming background with heavy horses thought Arabs was flighty little things and hated the dishy head/hooky neck until now
He fell in love with my purebred yearling and the partbreds didnt compare (due to his loveable rogue character)
From a jumping background with heavy horses he lost goldie not long ago age 43 owned from a kid, he has a 9yr apaloosa covered with apaloosa for 2008
I was told of a stunning anglo mare but i am not under any circumstances having any more horses as cut mine back due my health and with the foals next yr il have more than enough and more than happy with mine
I however viewd the mare with a view to my o/h having a ridden horse but told she was hot head and not sure she would be right for him, she is megga hot but so light ridden very quiet and from leg and seat you dont really touch her mouth (he is used to riding megga strong warmbloods and heavy types with opposite re mouth) but he fell in love with her like a kid at xmas
My o/h now owns a stunning anglo who moves like Arab but T.B head though very pretty and he talks Arab 24/7 arghhh help he is worse than me and his tack room is growing fast, he jumps/hacks and wants to hunt and show his anglo and thinks she is best thing since sliced bread, to say least this non Arab lover now thinks they are the best and is at the yard more than me ha ha ha, mind he is doing my horse in a morning and if im not well he does her pm too so his ridden mare is giving him the added fun but responsibility of his own
Ive never seen a 38yr guy who was not at all keen on Arabs fall for totally opposite of what he likes and he absolutely loves her, i guess his friends think he is crazy but the chaps hat and boots ect are out and he now knows why i like the breed so much though need valium to ride the mare he just got ha ha ha

Hi Cassey I think that a great story and what a turn around I wondering if the chaps and hat have anything to do with it LOL Also its really good that you have someone that you can depend on when you are not feeling so good to help you out with the stable jobs. I had an anglo very like that years ago I would never let any of my kids ride a horse out until I had tried it first away from home, boy was I glad I did with this one. She tried to get between two trees and dumped me knocked me out and when I came too and found my way home after looking for her for ages I found her back in the yard (which she had only been in for a couple of days) horsing to a stallion over the fence. However we became the very best of friends and we came to understand each other very well. I hope you O/H spends many happy hours with his hot headed friend. Sue |

Hi Cassy,Hope you're well It's amazing isn't it! I think my OH bought me my first horse to stop me doing anymore 'stupid stunts'I was becoming a bit of a dare devil!! He never realized how much of my time it would take(I have to do everything to my best ability!) That was years ago! He has always moaned about the hay in my car and how I smell after mucking out etc. Then he saw and fell in love with a colt for sale on Arabianlines! Admitedly it was after he got quite 'tipsy'!!! and said he wanted a horse! I couldn't believe it so a typed out what he said and made him sign it Only because I thought he would deny it the next day! None of our friends can believe the change in him. He is down the yard at 7am every morning with me and again in the evening. He loves his colt so much and is forever taking photos of him He now has hay in his car but the best thing is we can't smell each other. On the other hand our kids can....I keep telling them they need to get a horse to!! He even lurks on here but hasn't signed up.....yet!AND he reads all about Arabians and especially Crabbet Arabians!!!! chaps hat and boots ect are next!!!! All this has happened since March, before that he was complety and utterly none horsey

My OH keeps threatening to get a horse and would love an arab. In fact he would love to ride Freddie but although the bedouins werent all stick insects, I am loathed to inflict him on Freddie. He is about 15 stone - what do you reckon?? I am always sceptical about the weight an arab can comfortably carry?? (Also not keen on sharing lol) |

Great story
Since I bought Marim by OH has become something of an arab fan. He has learnt how to put on a headcollar, pick out feet and groom which is shocking because he was totally non horsey. To be honest I can never see him getting so keen that he volunteers to muck out though. So, how do you train your OHs to muck out? |

Training my o/h to muck out wasnt that hard as he had goldie from a kid who he lost recently age 43, he used to jump and mother used to have a yard of horses, his sis has a 17.2 warmblood called biggos as in big horse lol and he has family that events and plays polo so he already knew what to do, in some ways i thought it would be hard with same interest but infact its great and he does loads re stable duties and stuffing haylage nets ect, anyone want to hire a groom ha ha ha |

Must confess to being a converted OH. If anyone wants any lessons then you'd best speak to Brenda C, cos she converted me and I had no idea it was even happening! 2 1/2 years ago, wouldn't go into stable 2 years ago, mucking out, feeding etc 1 year ago, first in hand show (& red rosette) Last Saturday, bought my first arab
Still not brave enough to ride any of them though, arab or otherwise! |
