Apologies if this is not meant to be here!! I know of a 25yr old ex showjumper gelding 15.3hh and a 13/14 yrs anglo mare 15.3hh in need of a new home pref together. Both have not been ridden or by looks had a tremendous amount of anything done to them for 3 years. I went to look and thought I had found a home but after not hearing from them I pushed them and they had changed their minds!! Leaving the owners with less than two weeks to rehome! I have offered as a shorterm solution to take them on here at grass livery but I know this sounds hprrid but I simply cant afford to get stuck with two more horses. They have 2 weeks to find somewhere. They desperately need feet, teeth done and I dont eventhink they have passports!! The mare is obese but a nice sort and can def be brought back to work, the old boy should be ok for light pottering once feet etc are seen to. They are near Felixstowe, Suffolk. E-mail me on leigh.shayle@btinternet.com if you can help and I will give you the owners tel number, Thanks. Leighxx ************UPDATE*************** Just to let you know, that the old boy arrived at my yard last night, the person who transported them decided he wanted the Anglo mare, so they just dumped the old boy on me, and took off with her! I have just had his feet done, and will do his teeth at the weekend, once he has settled a little and I have some help. I am hoping, pending acceptance that the Veteran Horse Society will take him, I cant see why not, I am getting the vet out early next week to check him out but generally he seems in good health, so if I have no joy with the VHS and someone out there is looking for a companion/light hack at 15.2/3hh let me know. Thank you all so much for all your encouraging messages and offers for help!!! Leighxx

Why have the owners not dealt with teeth and feet, and what is the 2 week hurry for them? |

Feet & teeth need doing and no passports The ILPH at Snetterton could probably help out, not too far away, sounds like the both need a lot of TLC and could then be rehomed from there?
Sorry but the owners sound very irresponsible, so ILPH or RSPCA sounds the best option. |

Redwings at Stonham Barns near Stowmarket may be able to help.... Or the Blue Cross at Felixstowe, a couple of the ladies who work there have horses.... |
Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.

Thanks Guys, Redwings and ILPH are full. I completely agree with you re the owners not doing feet etc, these were daughters horses then she went off leaving elederly parents to deal...I know that these things should have been seen to, but at this moment in time I just want to get these poor horses sorted before I start having a go about there state! I am going to try the veteran HS for the old boy, he was an ex showjumper of one of the Whitakers and I know one of them is a patron so fingers crossed?? As to the t 2 weeks, they have been given 1 months notice to vacate this property, where they have lived for over 10 years, as I said someone was supposed to be having them but they have changed their minds leaving owners with short amount of time. Sad, sad situation, God wish I had pots of money!!! Lx |

Hi What a bad situation. I was going to suggest the AHS welfare for the anglo mare but then if she has no passport can i assume she is unregistered? Im not sure how it works but imagine they can only assist with registered anglos/ parts/ pures.

Have just spoken with someone at the VHS, very helpful, am now waiting for the head of welfare to contact me and hopefully the 25 year old will be taken. Will keep you posted, I said to the lady that I probably had a better chance of homing the Anglo. Lx |

Head of welfare has been in touch, and its looking hopeful for the old boy. They are full but if I can take them for now then they will take him on. If anyone is wondering who is best deserving of a donation, think about this lot...She said because of the weather she thinks thats why their donations have plummeted and struggle isnt the word! I have had plenty of offers now for the Anglo but after talking with the owners think I may put some work into her and try and sell her for a modest amount to cover my costs, as there is no way I can have them here and not do their feet etc! But whatever else I make I will give it to the VHS, as thats the only way I can think to give them a donation, and this little mare is good sort, just need to see if she is registered. Lx |

Hi Leigh
Did you tell him about her tendon injury? I do worry about horses being rushed back into work as they can break down and end up no good for anything and then end up in completely the wrong hands. |

Did this transporter have any authorisation from the owners to help himself to the mare? It sounds very dubious and I fear for her future
I hope the old boy gets on okay. |

The owners came with the horses, it was them that informed me that he was taking the mare. I am slowly getting info about who the man was as I wasnt even told his name. From what I can gather, he is a good horseman but will be in it for what he can get. Apparently he will get the mare going and sell her in a month!! What is dawning on me is they had it planned from the offset but hey ho, at least the old man is safe here and I will do all I can to help him until someone can offer him a good home, if the VHS cant take him or it will be an age before they can. I have had a couple of kind offers but I will have to give preference to local homes as I dont think its fair to expect him to travel too far. Emma, re the tendon injury, he apparently was a good friend of the lady whos yard they were on when the injury happened so I am sure he is aware. Her saving grace is her looks and temp so am pretty sure she'll find a good home but I am on the case! Lx |
