Are there any books or websites that anyone could suggest regarding the Russian Arabian's history?
I have the Count Stroganov and Sherbatov book which was really insightful and has gotten me wanting to learn more but apart from that I can't seem to find any further books.
Many thanks,
Lauren.

Hi Lauren,
This website has some information
http://clients.mfi.net/saioak/Russian_Arabian_History.html
and then of course there is this one
http://www.horses.ru/arabian.htm
But you probably know both of them. Hmmm... Then there is the Russian stud book vol. I-IV translated by Howard Kale and also his article Pieces of perfection which has been printed in instalments in one of s. You might find a visit to the Karho website interesting as well
http://www.karho.com/index.html
I have a copy of the article Pieces of Perfection and if you'd like to see it, you can send me an addressed envelope and I'll send you a copy. It's 17 pages.
There is also a book called The Damlines of Tersk which I haven't got myself, but would love to get my hands on I think that there was an article in instalments by that title as well - perhaps in Araber Journal?
There are quite a lot of websites about Russian Arabians if you google it and have some patience when you sort through the results.
I wish you luck in your search and I'd love to know if you find anything interesting
Anne
Ps: I thought I would add this - its a link to a previous discussion here on AL http://www.arabianlines.com/forum1/topic_new.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=940&SearchTerms=Russian+Arabians

"The Damlines of Tersk" is one book i would kill to get my hands on
A good source of reference is " A Guide To The Complete Pedigrees of Arabian Horses from Russia" by Wojciech Kwiatkowski. My copy has become well worn with constant referral |

Wow - thank you SO much!! That is absolutely brilliant! Hmmm I'll email Kossack to see whether I can buy the studbook - that would certainly be interesting reading.
Thank you again, I'll let you know if I come across anything.

Don't get too excited about it - it's not a book, it's actually quite a slim pamphlet. I think Anfi is correct in saying it's a reprint of some magazine articles. Of course, I can't lay my hands on my copy right now!
The author is Dr Dee Whittlesey.
If you can get hold of Gladys Brown Edwards' 'War Horse to Show Horse' there is some good background material in there. Also Erike Schiele's 'Arab Horse in Europe' (both out of print, but worth checking ebay/abebooks.com for)

I was very fortunate to spot The Dam Lines of Tersk advertised on AL - being sold by Val Cridge - THANK YOU VAL!!! It is a wonderful informative booklet with lots of photos and descriptions of the female lines. One of my most valued possessions along with a couple of Russian Stud Books and A Guide to the Complete Pedigrees of Arabian Horses from Russia (thanks to Kossack Stud ) and Tersk Holland Sales Catalogues - they give lots of info on pedigrees etc. |
