Dear All,
The Arab Horse Society Marathon is to be held at Larkhill Racecourse, Salisbury Plain on Saturday 27th October. This exciting event is open to members and non-members and is a wonderful finale to the season. Be a part of it and support a horse in the Sweepstakes, take an advertisement in the Catalogue or even be a sponsor, take a banner or a package deal for the day. For fun, excitement and suspense and a hot lunch after, it is a great way to get together with members from racing, endurance and the Society. Make it a date and check out the AHS website as to how you can be involved. If anyone has time to be on the Committee, we are looking for an extra person to help with the workload. Please contact me, Caroline Sussex by e-mail: Binleystud@aol.com

Ridden in three AHS marathons in the (deep and distant!) past and can confirm that its the most exciting and best competitive thing Ive ever experienced. Im desperate to have another go but my horse isnt old enough yet. Can anyone confirm the minimum age (of horse) to compete? Used to be 6 but I think someone mentioned its now 7? |

Hi Moosie,
Yes the minimum age is now 7, I wanted to do it last year on Mad Mary (aka CS Wraith) but she was only 6 but am definately going to do it this year as I have wanted to ride round it for years. I shall race her at Stratford and Salisbury first and then maybe Warwick if the grounds not too bad.
Can't wait,

Oh well, Peaches will have to wait a couple of years then, never mind plenty to do in the meantime, more racing this year and another 20 mile pr then some dressage in the winter and, hopefully my local riding club o.d.e. if it doesnt clash with next years race dates. Can understand why there is a minimum age as its very hard on the horses unless they are the right type and supremely fit. The 6 yo that I did ride in it coped well though and came out of it fine - but she had a very thorough preparation. |

Dear Sue
I think that it will be £10 to get in which is car and all occupants + a catalogue - please note "think" - I wll check. The qualification is ONLY for the veteran marathon; you have to show the the horse has either competed with ARO or successfully completed an endurance ride of 40km (25 miles). Not forgetting of course that ALL horses have to pass the pre-ride vetting before they can compete. Closing date is about 2 weeks before the Marathon - and will be adhered to - no late entries will be accepted. Hope that helps
