Does anyone know of a border collie rescue/rehoming centre or somewhere that can rehome one?
A farmer i know has a 3yr bitch and is giving her away free to good home as bought to herd sheep but she is too timid and more timid around men bless her
She is use to kids and animals on farm but too timid to herd sheep which is reason he got her
Thought there was someone on here that has theese but i may be wrong

phone the kennelclub, ask for the list of border collie, working collie rescue in your county.Every breed has a registered rescue, and they will be a good place to start. good luck polly |

Not sure where you are in the country.
If you look on www.agilitynet.co.uk under rescue/rehome section there are various place that are always taking in and rehoming border collies. (wiccaweys are always on there - they are very good.)
You may also be able to put advert/info about dog onto agilitynet

Wiccaweys operate nationwide using volunteer transport. E. Yorks should be no problem! |

Oh I am so glad she is too far away from me. I lost mine 3 years ago and miss her dreadfully but am committed to giving Freddie all my time.

Have just been on the Wiccaweys site and it has reduced me to tears, thank you for highlighting this lovely site Azara. I have always been passionate about collies, and so love their sense of fun, intelligence and loyalty. Sadly we can only have 2 collies at a time (we have 2 and bro-in-law has one + 2 labs). Now I know just where to look if we ever "need" another collie, I am sure we will one day.
I hope this little collie finds a new family soon cassy, she sounds like she would be just perfect in the right home.

its not funny really but you should see her face if one turns round to her poor girl is off 3 fields away like a rocket bless her, she came from o/h brother in law who trains them to work sheep up nr lake windemere but she was too timid on a training place so farmer tried her with his sheepdog to see if will follow and learn with him (i dont know a thing re training them) apparently with a confident trained one can gain young ones confidence but no way bless her she goes when they are running but one turns at her instead herd forward she is off, she doesnt like loud command whatever it is they shout to them to move in whatever direction or the whistle though not a clue why, she just needs to go to a non working home i think or poor girl will be off like hell in opp direction, mind after seeing o/h sheep turn on you esp with lambs i can see why she runs opp direction when they turn at her
If she sees kids going past her whole body wags and licks them to death but she is unsure only timid way at first then fine when knows you |

Ha ha, you have to laugh at collies We have 60 ewes + lambs and 2 "working" collies, they are both terrified of sheep, but bro-in-law has a collie cross, not only does he herd sheep but he does cows as well!!! Thank goodness we have 2 sons who can run fast, now they would make brilliant working collies

I rescued a kitten like that once. Very nervous but full of purrs until you put you hand to stroke her - then she would run and hide. The first night we had her I let her into the bedroom (against OH's wishes), when I felt her front feet beside me, instead of trying to stroke her I kept my hands under the covers and just spoke to her. She spent the whole night curled around my head, licking my hair.By morning (not a pretty)she allowed me to stroke her and soon everyone else could too. We had her for 13 years and she was a little star!!
Hope the little dog has the same happy outcome!

A lot of collies are like this which makes them untrainable for farm/flock work but great pets My Dad has competed and trained sheepdogs at an international level for many years. I just have the 'rejects' - in the nicest way possible !! Meg the Mousse, the eldest, is a result of the AHS National Show Malvern. I went off to get my numbers and show catalogue from the couple who manned the stable area and I came back to the lorry with a puppy !!!! Best National Show I've ever had !! |
