I'd be really interested to know how many of you either own or breed these wonderful horses
Sadly I lost beautiful girl earlier this year, maybe I just can't see the woods for the trees so to speak, but there don't seem to be many around.

If you mean "golden cross" as in spanish/egyptian, then YES, I have one!!!

But I have heard the "golden cross" means many different things to other people, hee hee.

Please define Rosy? Many thanks in advance

Hi Rosy, am I right in thinking you mean THE golden cross which was the making of El Shaklan? or the cross between Egyptian/ Spanish? which many see as the golden cross? although people have crossed these lines for years without getting" The El Shaklan look!"
There are still plenty of El Shaklan related breeders, and I for one am very interested in this bloodline, because I have found My Stallion ( having NO El Shaklan in his blood, yet a very good likeness to his type) )

makes for a very good outcross for adding the type that perpetuates that certain look. Egbert would be able to explain this successful outcross to you much better than I could, but certain Carmargue bloodlines work really well with El Shaklan close related horses.I have El Shaklan related mares that I put him to with great Success, and The Silverdale Mare" Nazika" who is a Sanadik El Shaklan grand daughter has just had for them THE most beautiful filly they have EVER bred ( their words!) by using my stallion (sorry I only have picturse of her taken at one day old

Hi Carla, yes I do mean the Spanish/Egyptian, so have changed subject title, thanks.
Any piccies of yours? I'd love to see
Hi Lynda, as you will have seen I mean the spanish/egyptian cross which many people see, as you say as golden cross. Your boy looks fab, and very much like the mare I had. That filly is very beautiful
Sadly, like so many others I'm sure, I didn't truly 'appreciate what I had until it was gone'.

I have a "golden cross" stallion by the immortal Crusader out of my Spanish mare bred by the Maxwell's and he is 15 hands 3" of beauty; am I biased or what. He is the love of my life, he is snow white with huge black eyes and yards of flowing mane and tail.

I also have his 3/4 Egyptian daughter who I may sell to a good home as not only may I have to go into hospital for an eye operation but I snapped the ligament in my shoulder on Sunday so a poor old thing at the moment!

I love the "golden cross" and most of the ones I have seen have been very nice if they are from good parents; if you use good stock you have a good chance of getting something very nice. Sorry to hear you lost your "treasure".

Barbara

Hi Barbara, no you're not biased I'm sure you're right about using good stock, I agree the good ones can be lovely, but then this applies right across the board.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder, sounds very painful and hope it doesn't take too long to heal. Would be a shame to have to sell your 3/4 Egyptian, I bet she's beautiful.

Thank you Lynda, I think so too. But I can't take credit for them. The Maxwell's bred the stallion (like so many other beautiful horses) and he is on loan to me, as I have loved him from when he was 6 months.

The ladies that own the stallion are responsible for the breeding of his daughter and I managed to persuade them to sell her to me when she was 6 months. I really couldn't afford her at the time, nor did I have room for her, but she was a "must have".

Photos are curtesy of Emma Maxwell.

So really I am only responsible for being owned by them!!!

Barbara, I am so sorry to hear that you are having a "sore" time at the moment, I hope you heal very quickly and you op goes smoothly.
I have only seen one pic of your boy, and he certainly has "the eyes", I was very impressed

Lynda and Barbara, we do indeed have some treasures and wouldn't a cross between them be interesting (I can dream, even at my age)???

Rosy, if you saw a result of the above crosses, I bet it would be a "must have" for you!!!

Thank you Cate, without a doubt, they are going nowhere. I have been offered a blank cheque for the daughter, but money couldn't buy her, she is (one of) the loves of my life and she is one of the reasons I get out of bed in the morning, hee hee!!!!

Hi Carla,
You're probably right about the 'must have'! I love your comment about "the eyes" of Barbara's boy, I think it's definately those that get you, my mare had the sort of eyes you would simply 'get lost' in.

Good for you, Carla...Great to hear of someone who's head is not turned by the mighty £ sign.

Reminds me of the poem, probably got the title wrong, The Arabs farewell to his Steed by The Hon. Mrs Norton....think thats her name. Anyhow, as you all know he flings them back their gold and cant sell his Arabian horse after all.

I really love the Golden Cross, I am always automatically attracted to this type when I see it!

This is my HS Mahalia, 2 year filly, she is a golden cross, 3/4 egyptian and 1/4 spanish Once she is old enough to breed I hope to use a stallion with spanish blood on her.

Wow Sasha, she is stunning, and such a beautiful colour. I bet her coat is iridescent when the sun shines.

Cate, there are just some things that money cannot buy, and the poem says it all!!!

Someone thought I might add a little to this but have to say you folks have a handle on it!

Golden cross is actually a more general term in the states...*Bask on Crabbet has been called a Golden Cross; Fadjur on Saki= a Golden Cross, etc. Tho' the first time I became aware of it was courtesy of El Shaklan's enthusiasts.

Carla-I love your boy as I love Lynda's...Seeing his picture makes my heart skip a beat!

Whatever the case the nice thing about the Egyptian/Spanish and/or El Shaklan bloodlines is that they can be bred within the group or outside and the result is consistently wonderful.! Honestly I can't think of a time I've seen an iffy or bad result.

Sasha! Your girl is a WOW!!!

Egbert, Whoops!!!, sorry, I have just answered you on the other thread.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments on my "boy", he makes my heart skip a beat every time I see him too, whether in the field or in his stable, as do his beautiful children. I know he's not perfect and am more than happy to point out his "faults" to possible "victims"!!!, but they usually get mesmerised by his character and pure presence, even OH is under his spell and he is really not a "horsey" person!!!

I have to say that these jewels (as in all Arabian horses) really captivate your soul, once you are captured there is no known cure, and the time you spend with them is always memorable.

Carla, xx.
