Information sought on 18+ yr old anglo arab gelding, chestnut with blaze and hind white sock, some white spots on coat. He stands at 15.1hh without shoes and weight so should be 15.2hh shod and with weight on his withers
This photo was taken last week, we have had him 5 weeks today, you can probably imagine the state he was in 4 weeks prior to the photo.
It was us or the meatman! So we bought him to give him a second chance at life hence we called him Chance.
He has no passport, so we know nothing about him, was totaly emaciated and weak when we got him, shivering wet cold and hungry had wintered out all last winter rugless and covered in wounds where he had previously falled and scraped all along his one side of his body and head, which have all but one wound healed now, he had severe conjunctivitus in his one eye which is only now coming under control with antibiotics. He is still being treated for his wound on his hip and is slowely gaining weight.
He could be a lot older than 18 we are awaiting the dentist to confirm. The farrier confirmed his hooves show signs of a severe infection throughout his body a few years back, we believe lead to the carcinoma on his third eyelid. He is receiving anti inflammatory in his feed to help his arthritis in his hind legs and it has improved significantly, he now trots around the field.
We think he has a carcinoma of his eye and are awaiting an equine eye specialist 2nd opinion to look at his eye, diagnose and give their opinion.
He is quirky and plays with his lead rope and headcollar with his muzzle when you take on and off and like to rub on you if you turn your back to him.
He is very calm and gentle, and so far no vices in or out of the stable. He must have some point had a loving, caring home where he was loved, going on his manners and how affectionate he is.
Please can someone help, we would love to find some history on this old boy.

Oh Claire
Sorry I can't help - did you find the poor old boy at a sale? Sounds as if he's landed un his feet now with you to care & look after him.

No help in tracing him to offer---but I just wanted to say how great it is to read this. Well done you for taking on this old boy and repaying his obvious trust in humans who have let him down so badly somewhere along the line. |

It is really sad that many horses out live their use, served their owners well and then are left to rot basicly, not saying the owners leave them to rot but most are sold on un-knowing to the previous owners. He was bought again from Clive Howells, who was sending him for meat and we just couldn't let that happen to him. Needless to say we will not be going there again! It's heart breaking and I just cannot help every horse I see. I cannot go to sales I just don't have the money or the facilities to rescue them all. But, if I won the lottery (fingers crossed one day) then it wouldnt be an issue.
Anyway he is a total sweetheart and has helped my mum gain her trust back in horses which she lost many years ago in an riding accident. He is my mums horse but I help her with him, giving advice and support where I can. We just wish that we could find some history on him? perhaps he has someone looking for him and wondering how he is etc. I suspect that he was sold to some calus person unknowingly and was then left in a field un-cared for. |

Hi Clare
If ever your lovely boy was registered with the society, as an Anglo I would have thought that he must have been parentage tested (prior to DNA). It might not be a bad idea for you to contact the society to find out if there is a possibility of another test being done to see if they might be able to trace anything that way.

I didn't think of that? I did try with my own mare (who is an american standardbred)tracing with dna but stagbi told me that they have so many on file without her original name they would not be abl to help even with a dna test? But, perhaps the arab society will try? |
