It seems that the power's that be are going to once again use technology to solve a problem created by their over-reliance on technology in their eagerness to generate easy revenue from an overly complacent and trusting populace.

The true purpose of government it would appear is to exploit the population who trusted them and gave them a mandate to govern! "1984" is alive, well and thriving in "Utopian Britain" it seems![:9]

Hmmm! It seems we are all to be chipped and pinned eventually that way 'They' will know exactly what we are all up to. I doubt there are that many clonned cars but it makes us believe in 'more secure' methods. How right George Orwell was!!!!! Urhhhhh.... I'm going riding before someone comes along and chips and pins me... Big Brother is watching!! |

It makes me glad in a sense that I don't live in the UK any more .... having said that despite its comparatively tiny population Eire is believe it or not, the world's largest market for CCTV!
On the subject of George Orwell, his predictions & forecasts regarding our present eating and shopping habits, in the second half of "The Road To Wigan Pier" are frighteningly perceptive & accurate!

Hi Pat,
I don't dispute that there is a problem, what I disagree with is the solution of throwing more technology at it which is merely going to cost money, rather than provide a workable solution. On the other hand if your car has an RFID tag on it, then it's location would always be known & would this of itself prevent someone from cloning your car? Personally, I would derive no benefit from the authorities knowing where my car was at all times and someone could still clone it if they wanted to. The only beneficiaries are the authorities, who want to keep as much information on the population as they can legally get away with, and the companies that get awarded the contracts to deliver ever more expensive IT based "solutions" that invariably fall short of delivering the "benefits" that they were supposed to, whilst simultaneously costing several times the original budget For example replacing the air traffic control system at West Drayton took over 20 years from start to finish! Though my own personal involvement ended in 1982

Personally I'd rather see SOMETHING done about this: as the victim in the report said: you're guilty unless you can prove you're innocent if someone clones your number plate.
Why isn't ot a requirement to take the registration docs etc with you when you purchase a number plate? That seems a possible and simple solution.
As for the air traffic control system...! Don't get me started on that, Mike; Himself never worked on that one but worked on plenty of other systems... There just aren't enough competent programmers out there now, and even fewer managerial types who have even the faintest clue as to how a system should work. Grrr......

The whole thing is a nonsense, when i change cars getting new plates made for the various trailers is a pain, having to produce the car's reg. doc, proof af address and so on.
Why can't trailer plates just be made to be very obviously DIFFERENT from car plates. All our trailers are borrowed by many people, all of whom technically need their own reg no. when towing it.
The bad boys will have equipment to match the technology to make up car plates if they are already doing sometihng illegal.
its always the innocnet who are made to pay for the actions of others, and the government just wants any excuse for more and more control. We are well beyond 1984! |
