Good luck! They're difficult to grow! I have a little one. It's not red,it's green?? They love humidity. I have an indoor heated swimming pool and it's thriving in there along with an avacardo and pineapple,no fruit yet. Don't over water just keep moist. |

Jodie, where do you live as OH is here reading this ( on my new laptop in the kitchen) and is Horticulturalist, knows his stuff, so....depends where you live , as to whether( oe weather-pardon the pun ) it should be inside /outside/north/south facing and what its watering /feeding needs are. It may be that it should be outside summer and in ( or packed with straw and wrapped if staying outside ) in the winter. We live in Somerset and he has a few in gardens in this area....Polly |

I grew a banana from seed (a kids' thing bought from Hamleys toy shop!) but had to very quickly give it to a neighbour who had an underground heated greenhouse because it grew so big. He had to pass it on because it outgrew his greenhouse!! So I hope you have plenty of room Beau! I've also grown avocados but given up when they grow shoulders that stretch out for yards... But Deboniks - did you see the story in the tabloids (Mirror perhaps) about the woman who has grown a pineapple in her conservatory and it has fruit on? The Kew experts are very impressed because it's apparently very difficult to get pineapple to fruit in this country. |

Kathleen----try scrunched up egg shells,in a ring around the plants or, strips of copper ( you can buy it at garden centre) as slugs hate both. Beau--- banana trees like it warm and moist ( surprise surprise ) so over winter ,if planted out side ,wrap it up horticulural fleece lined with straw, the idea is to stop any cold air or frost getting into the base of the leaves, or bring it into a dry area if in a pot. It us unlikley you will ever get fruit but hey....with global warming , never say never......good luck . polly
