We own Gemma Rose -she is 19 years old this year and have owned her since she 2/3 years old.She was my riding mare for many years and is totally traffic proof as we live on an extremely fast moving road.We have done showing in hand and some ridden which she hated with a passion, much prefering to be out and about up the mountains and exploring not minding where we went however wet or muddy.Unfortunately, she developed a back problem (kissing spines was mentioned)and on several occasions would literally throw herself on the floor, the last time was about four years ago when I was unable to get my left foot out from the stirrup and went with her-that's about as much as I remember on that occasion. So she retired. She had one foal by Al Hakkim in 1993 and wouldn't have anything to do with him until we put him in the box next door and bottle fed him she didn't mind that and would quite happily show in mare & foal classes! But hey-that's just Gemma and we love her ,I know I will never have another ridden mare like her.I do hope you mean Gemma Rose by Shabaan out of Naomi Rose after me giving you chapter & verse. We are in Wales by the way. |

Yes thats her, how is she? i looked after her at Millfield, 18 odd years ago, she was a baby through to a rising 2 when i looked after her, she was a real character back then and absolutely adorable, i have fond memories of her. i do have a picture of her as a yearling, she was beautiful and a stunning rose roan colour, which of course changes.
I bet youve had some fun with her?

Hi Paula, sorry for not replying sooner .Would you mind e-mailing your address as I'm not too clever with "digi" things and I'll send you some.(keith816@btinternet.com).You'll be quite surprised when you see her as she is now snow white but has kept her dark mane and tail. She does not look her age (nor act it)and I'm sure she really misses our rides as she looks wistfully over the gate and watches the traffic-still we might try one more attempt to convince her that being a mum is not really so bad! We'll see. |
