Honey as usual is hanging onto her winter coat for all shes worth, despite OCD style grooming! But I've started to notice how dry her skin is, she seems really 'scurfy' and no amount of brushing seems to clear it (we had a bath a few weeks back too) It makes her coat really dull and I'm guessing can't be too pleasant although shes not itching or uncomfortable. Has anyone any suggestions or products they could recommend. I could always just try bathing her again when the weather gets warmer!

My gelding gets this aswell in the spring when his coat is changing though he looks really shiny from a distance up close he is really scurfy. Last spring I added Baileys Outshine to his feed while he was losing his coat but I haven't been able to get it anywhere this year. |

I'd second the Outshine (or oil) - I've been feeding it to my mare this spring and I've never seen her shine like she is at the moment. And I don't groom excessively as she lives out so I want lots of natural protection in her coat. |

I'm not a big fan of washing animals unless absolutely necessary - I think it makes scurfy skin worse.I think feeding a good balancer or oil is the best way to improve skin health. You can cut down hard feed to a minimum as well if you do this. Some people think alfalfa doesn't agree with their horse's skin too well. |

alfalfa gave mine really puffy legs. he is lots shinier on haylage than hay. a hoof supplement is good for shine and healthy skin(and feet!) but they can be expensive |

Farriers Formula, or the new-generation version, Formula4Feet, makes their coats better than Blue Chip! Cheapest from eBay shops, even with postage.
Does anyonw know if rapeseed oil has implications for a COPD sufferer who is especially sensitive to the rape we have on three sides this year? |

We have a lttle orange arab, who's skin is not great...and him mums is the same..and he hangs on to his coat, so we put him on Equidermis from feedmark, and its really good. I also have a slightly bald whippet , so I feed it to him on it too. Its quite paletable , they seem to enjoy it , maybe you should give it a try. Polly |

watch when adding oil as it can deplete the vitamin e - outshine is a very good product as it has vitamin e added. |
