Just got news that the lovely 20yo mare Rose Aboud (Aboud x Rose Bandola) is in foal to Tobago! With twins - the vet has pinched out the smaller embryo and she will be checked again on Wednesday. Please keep your fingers crossed that she holds on to the remaining one! (She slipped a foal last year, but this year Karen has kept her at home and used AI, so we're hoping for a stress-free pregnancy.)
This is a very grand and special old lady, by one of my all-time favourite stallions, and I'm very proud that Tobago has been chosen for what will probably be her last foal.
Thank you Karen! |

Hurrah! I am sooooo happy for you Nancy!
Fiestaa is just the most beautiful mare, and dam of Nancy's international champion stallion MB Capritzioo!! It is such an honour for my little boy to be chosen for her!!
Thank you again Nancy - I hope she gives you another Capritzioo!
Newsflash: Another v nice breeder has just booked two beautifully bred and stunning mares to Tobago - they're both off to the vet's today...can't say any more just now as the mares are quite well known and I don't want to jinx anything, but watch this space...!
I still just cannot believe how lucky I am to have this horse - I really don't deserve him. |

Karon im sure the wait will be well woth it, my girls are 3 month and one a couple week more in foal and its dragging the wait appears to last forever, so come on guys will we be having TOBAGO fanclub at the Nationals next yr with all theese babies :) Ive a groom lined up and extra handler as mine are pba so plaiting ect for us eeek
Kate how about we get as many of the foals together and do some form of open day/parade to see the main man with his mares and resulting foals next yr? a great excuse to have a get together and lots of horse therapy, id travel mare and foal to do this:), maybe we could do like a parade, see them loose and even little mini show with entries for fun and pay entry fees to cover venue and maybe donate to a charity of your choice, as id be home quite a bit once my ops start id gladly help design entries and price venues ect if you and the mare owners fancy a horsey get together and fun, i know a lot will be showing anyways but would be lovely to see first crop with pure/pba, differant stamp of mares parading and could get some great pics ect for you (only a thought as he is such a lovely boy) x x |

Cassy you are SO sweet! What a lovely, kind thought! But I think it might be frightfully difficult to get all the mares and foals in one place - not everyone may be willing to travel their babies long distances. And it might be rather presumptuous of me to have a parade when it's only his first foal crop. Only someone as nice as you would even think of this!
Anyway - we've still got to get all these mares in foal! I think there's only about 7 or 8 in foal so far, some waiting for scans, some waiting to foal, etc., etc. - and all sorts of things can go wrong (one lovely breeder had to cancel cos the mare totally rejected this year's foal and it had to go to a foster-mum, for example).
And I am anxiously hoping that all these babies will live up to their breeders' high expectations! My mentor (who knows more about breeding than anyone) has assured me that they will - but Tobago is still a first-season, unproven stallion. Even his totally besotted owner has to try to keep some sense of perspective on all this and not get tooooo carried away!
But bless you for that sweet thought! |

2 years is such a long time to wait!
If Rasheeka's foal is as naughty as she is, I'll willingly bring my mare and foal to a parade.... and leave them both with you
For Esther, in case she read this thread, guess what, Rash hasn't even conceived and I'm already planning on keeping this foal! Yo'd never have guessed it, would you? |

Just spoke to Tessa (YO at Cliveden Stud) and it sounds as though Tobago is having a busy time of it at the moment, collecting every day this week, I think.
The good news is that he is now just starting to mount 'Trinny' (short for Trinidad) his dummy-mare without the aid of an in-season jump-mare! At the latest collection they used a live mare, but she was not in season, and he still jumped on Trinny and did his bit, bless him!
I am learning never to get complacent or take anything for granted in this whole breeding business, but this does sound quite promising, don't you think?
The biggest nightmare has always been the constant worry that we might not have a jump-mare in season when a collection is needed - if he will mount Trinny the dummy without this, then life should become much less nerve-wracking for us all!
Karon - Aha! Now I see! This parade thing is all a plot you've cooked up with cassy to offload your naughty mare on me! Lol - I had this funny image of you hiding naughty Rash and her foal behind a tree at Cliveden and sneaking off with a nice peaceful empty lorry... |

Rats, you've seen through me I love Rash to bits but it would be nice to turn up at the yard and not have to wonder how much electric fence (still turned on) is trashed! She's a darling really though, and has the sweetest nature ever - I think she's just bored and needs to do something. With the state of the fields, I'm thinking of teaching her to scuba dive..... |

Karon/Kate i think it may be my mare hiding behind the tree or possibly me hiding to leave her there ha ha,shes as stubborn as a mule if doesnt want to load, she aint scared just does the i aint moving and you wont make me then plants herself solid, we walk her in leg by leg but oh boy its like a aerobic session, we intend to do the shows to get foal loading ect before weaned and hope foal in first makes her shift (she is known if doesnt want to load to lay on floor or ramp like a dog in temper arghhhhhhh)this girl went to monty roberts to be loaded at a clinic he got her on then on way home wouldnt go in the lorry eeek, all her show wins have been with breeder who i got her from, as my girl is very very chilled im hoping her foal has a bit of oomph, oh my maybe i shouldnt say that or il get a total hothead ha ha (her 2yr filly is hotter than hot by applauze though maybe a little too hot)my yearlings mum wasnt great to load but bless him he would trot up the wagon ramp to go out and he always went in first, hope works again :) |

Well - the Daddy certainly has plenty of 'oomph' and sparkle cassy, so I hope your foalie will have just the right amount!
Another super mare has just been scanned in foal to Tobago - the owner's not an ALiner so for once I'm updating this thread myself! The mare is the lovely big Austrian Warmblood I mentioned on another thread a while ago - here she is:
It was quite funny having her at Cliveden cos the senior stallion there, who is an advanced eventer, was convinced that a gorgeous big sport-horse like this should be one of 'his' mares - and most put out to find that she was visiting that uppity little Arab thing instead LOL!

Naomi was scanned in foal this morning. I'm so happy that my three mares are in foal to Tobago at the fist try with frozen semen. Everything went so well. |

Hurrah! Oh Nancy I can't tell you how happy I am! That is just the best news ever! Naomi is such a beautiful mare...will this baby be bay or chestnut do you think?
I musn't get complacent or start taking things for granted, but 3 out of 3 at the first attempt with frozen semen is looking very promising!
This has cheered me up so much - I've been ill for days and unable to go and see Tobago - so it's very nice to hear some good news!
Fingers crossed now for Noaa!

I don't know about the color of the foal. Naomi already produced 3 foals with Capritzioo (also, from a bay stallion out of a chestnut mare) 2 are chestnut with flaxen mane and one is bay. Naomi is also by a bay stallion out of a chestnut mare (from 2 bays) I will be a surprise |

Thanks Laura! (Yes that is exactly what my mother says! She's lovely - you'll meet her if you're at Malvern this year cos she's coming with me...)
Don't worry I'll be OK - more important how are you and Polly?
I know Tobago is being very well cared for by Tessa and the girls, bless them - but I do miss him! Never mind. Feeling a bit better today and may try to get up there... |

So sorry Nancy I think you may have told me about possible foal colour already - memory not working!
I'm rather hoping it will be a chestnut with flaxen mane - I love that colour - but will be just as happy with a bay. Fingers crossed it will be gorgeous either way!
Can't wait to come and visit your little herd of Tobagolings next year! Some other breeders should have two Tobago-babies, and one should have three (although one of her mares is on loan to a friend), but if all goes well you will be the only one with FOUR! |

Kate, thanks for asking both Polly and myself are well thankyou just waiting patiently (not) for tomorrow morning.
Some people are soo lucky having so many babies due would love to have more.....one day!
I too would love a chestnut especially with flaxen mane and tail, thats both mine and my mothers dream (my first arab was and always wanted another since) just dont think Polly will throw one..but who knows what can happen, she does like to be different.
Hope your feeling better and once again congratulations to everyone thats expecting Tobagolings. |
