Thanks for all your kind messages. As you know we are bringing him home tomorrow. We have now decided to try hydrotherapy on him. I've got nothing to lose. If it doesn't work then at least I know I tried. The vet said he has lost the hoof wall but is putting his weight on his foot and he isn't in any discomfort. He will be on hydrotherapy twice and day and walked to try and get the blood flow back. The vet didn't discourage us for doing it. I hope it works. The desision to put him down will depend on his progress. But I won't let him suffer. If I think for one minute he's really suffering over this then I will not hesitate. Fingers crossed once again.

It's not clear from your posts exactly what injury Goldie had, so difficult to say, but if he has lost the hoof wall, as long as there are signs of new growth and that hasn't been killed off too, it will grow down again. Have you thought about contacting a remedial farrier?---there must be some really good ones in the States. Of course there are great vets in the States as well, but it seems sadly not local to you, at least initially.

Oh this is good news! Where theres a will theres a way and if it works and helps you keep your lovely boy then give it a shot for all its worth! I've heard that salt water hydrotherapy is very beneficical in cases like this but for the life of me can't remember where I've seen the article!

My friend has a hydrotherapy spa at her stud and she has been very impressed with results she is getting with a range of injurys, leg problems etc.
One horse she has on livery there was unable to be ridden for over two years and it was looking like she would have to be PTS however after a few months the owner is considering dusting of her saddle again.
So hopefully it will work for Goldie
When you take him I found that carrot sticks keep Tara settled infact she see the spar as a 20 minute eating session |

Aww Sue I have absolutely everything crossed for Goldie and I'm praying this will work!!!
They say "where there's a will - there's a way" and you certainly have willpower so lets hope that combined with all ours as well we can "will" this to work for Goldie.

Good luck with the hydrotherapy. Do you have the precise details of the injury and perhaps then we can all put our minds to investigating all routes for you. The net is such a massive resource of information. When my girls fractures were diagnosed I found an amazing vet in the States who spoke at length to me and even offered to view her x-rays if I sent them over.
The Royal Veterinary College in the UK is a training centre too and they may be of help as they like to pioneer research.
I have the name of one of their leg speacialists if you'd like it. |
